A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE NORTHEAST JONES HIGH SCHOOL "LADY TIGERS" SOCCER TEAM AND HEAD COACH SCOTT TYSON FOR WINNING THEIR SECOND CONSECUTIVE CLASS 4A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, the Northeast Jones High School "Lady Tigers" Soccer Team (18-1) made school history on March 5, 2011, winning the Mississippi High School Activities Association State 4A Girls Soccer Championship by defeating the Pontotoc Lady Warriors 2-1 in sudden death at Arrow Field on the campus of Clinton High School; and

     WHEREAS, in his fifth season as the Lady Tigers' Head Coach, Scott Tyson made history by becoming the first Coach to win a State Championship in soccer.  He was almost speechless after the victory; and

     WHEREAS, Morgan Pace put the Lady Tigers on the board with 23:00 left to play in the first half to give Northeast Jones a 1-0 advantage to start the game.  Andrea Swanson's goal tied the game for Pontotoc with 32:00 to go in regulation.  After a 1-1 tie to end regulation, the game was sent into overtime.  Northeast Jones' 7th-Grader Morgan Mansell scored the winning goal in sudden death.  With the State Championship Trophy in hand, Morgan Pace was ecstatic to walk away a State Champion.  She also scored her 105th goal in her career; and

     WHEREAS, Northeast Jones High School held a soccer celebration on March 7 honoring the Lady Tigers after they captured their second straight State 4A Soccer Crown.  Northeast Jones' Athletic Director Keith Braddock and Supervising Principal Cooper Pope conducted the program and accepted the State Trophy on behalf of the student body from senior players Hayley Davidson and Brooke Blackledge; and

     WHEREAS, the 2010-2011 Northeast Jones Lady Tigers Soccer Team roster is:  Marisa Rushton, Hannah Beech, Callie Smith, Rachel Ishee, Morgan Mansell, Katie Johnson, Haley Hill, Brooke Blackledge, Lacey Guthrie, Haley Walters, Breanna Waller, Chanler Pickering, Nichol DeHaan, Ashley Watts, Courtney Delk, Hayley Davidson, Allyson Myrick, Tatum Dickerson, Amber DeHaan, Samantha Foreman, Madison McLelland and Bailey Thornton; Head Coach Scott Tyson; Athletic Director Keith Braddock; Supervising Principal Cooper Pope; and Managers:  Ashley Smith, Sarah Grantham and Hayden Johnson; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this special achievement by a team of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Northeast Jones High School "Lady Tigers" Soccer Team and Head Coach Scott Tyson for winning their second consecutive Class 4A State Championship, and extend to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors our best wishes for future academic and athletic success.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Tyson and Principal Cooper Pope for the team, forwarded to the Jones County Board of Education and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
