A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING DR. THAD FULTON WAITES, M.D., FOR HIS SERVICE AS CHAIR OF THE BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE AMERICAN COLLEGE OF CARDIOLOGY.

     WHEREAS, Dr. Thad Fulton Waites, M.D., has been honored by his colleagues through his selection as Governor for Mississippi of the American College of Cardiology (ACC) from 2008-2011, and Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the ACC from 2011-2012.  Dr. Waites is presently (2012) serving as Chairman of the Board of Governors of the American College of Cardiology having dedicated three years as Chairman-Elect, Chairman and Past Chair of this prestigious organization; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Waites has been on the Medical Staff of Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, since 1987, served as President of the Hospital in 1993 and 2003, and has served on the Medical Executive Committee of the hospital from 2002.  He holds the following other staff appointments in Hattiesburg:  1997-present, Director of Cardiac Catheterization Lab; 1996, Co-Chairman, Quality Management Committee; 1994-present, Coronary Care Committee; 1997-present, Medical Staff, Hattiesburg Clinic, P.A. Hattiesburg, Mississippi; 1996-2004, Vice President; 1993-2004, Board of Directors; and 1993-2004, Management Information Systems Committee; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Waites is Board Certified in Cardiology, is a Fellow with the Society of Cardiac Angiography and Interventions, and is a Fellow with the American College of Cardiology (FACC).  He is a graduate of Mississippi College and the University of Mississippi Medical Center, and completed his residency at the University of Colorado Affiliated Hospitals and Emory University Hospital in Atlanta; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Waites belongs to the following Professional Associations and activities:  January 1, 1987-present, Southern Heart Center Hattiesburg Clinic, P.A., Hattiesburg, Mississippi; 1980-1986, Ochsner Medical Institutions, Section of Cardiology, New Orleans, Louisiana; 1976-1978, Ochsner Medical Institutions, Section of General Internal Medicine, New Orleans, Louisiana; 2003-2004, President, Southeast Affiliate American Heart Association; 2002-2003, President, Southeast Affiliate American Heart Association; 1994, President, Mississippi Affiliate American Heart Association; 1976-1978, Associate Clinical Professor Tulane University, Teaching Sophomore Clinical Methods Group; 1969, Summer Travel Fellowship (Indonesia), Smith, Kline and French; 2008-2011, Governor for Mississippi, ACC (American College of Cardiology); 2010-2013, Chairman, Board of Governors, ACC (3-year cycle of Elect, Chair and Past Chair); 2011-2012, Secretary of the College, ACC; American Heart Association; American Medical Association; American College of Cardiology; Society of Cardiac Angiography and Interventions; Heart Rhythm Society (formerly NASPE); Mississippi Medical Association; South Mississippi Medical Society; and Southern Medical Association.  Dr. Waites has extensive professional publications; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Waites is married to Gerry Waites; and it is with great pride that we join his colleagues in honoring this health care professional whose good spirit and remarkable intellect has enriched the lives of his fellow physicians and staff and for his considerable contributions to his patients and the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do recognize Dr. Thad Fulton Waites, M.D., for his service as Chair of the Board of Governors of the American College of Cardiology, extending our best wishes to Dr. Waites, his family and to his fellow cardiologists.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Dr. Waites, forwarded to the Executive Director of the Mississippi Medical Association, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
