A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE MOUND BAYOU JFK HIGH SCHOOL "LADY HORNETS" GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM AND COACH LINDA ALLEN FOR THEIR FIRST CLASS 1A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP IN PROGRAM HISTORY AND FOR A PERFECT 2013-2014 SEASON.
WHEREAS, Frederica Haywood, a McNeese State signee, scored a game-high 22 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead John F. Kennedy-Mound Bayou High School past Pine Grove 39-34 to claim the MHSAA Class 1A Girls State Championship on March 13, 2014; and
WHEREAS, it was the Lady Hornets' first State Championship in school history and capped a perfect 32-0 season. JFK did not take its first lead until 35 seconds remaining in the game when Haywood made a layup to make the score 36-34. Ieysha Mays and Jarvis Malone added six points each for JFK; and
WHEREAS, it was the final game for Lady Hornets' Coach Linda Allen, who is retiring from coaching after this season. "That is the best feeling, and what a game," Allen said. "Those young ladies fought through so much adversity and to come through it and come back to win a State Championship against a good team says a lot." Allen also guided JFK to the Girls Class 1A Track Title last season; and
WHEREAS, the Championship Game was a relentless team playing another relentless team; and
WHEREAS, the 2013-2014 Lady Hornets' Girls Basketball Team Roster is: Amiya Clifton, Tanielle Woods, Natassjha Anderson, Latina Jones; Jarvis Malone; Aleghsa Haywood; Jakerria Malone; Victoria Brown, B'hletia Bell, Kayla Franklin, Kenish Coleman, Shina Blunt, Holmes Jerterika, Frederica Haywood, Ieysha Mays, and Danielle Thompson; and Coach Linda Allen; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this Championship Team that has brought honor to its school, community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Mound Bayou JFK High School "Lady Hornets" Girls Basketball Team and Coach Linda Allen for their first Class 1A State Championship and for a perfect 2013-2014 season, and extend to the players, coaches, parents and sponsors our best wishes for future athletic and academic success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Allen, Principal William Crockett, forwarded to the Mound Bayou Public School District Board of Trustees and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
