A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE SACRED HEART CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL (HATTIESBURG) ALPHA MOCK TRIAL TEAM FOR WINNING THE MISSISSIPPI MOCK TRIAL CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, Hattiesburg's Sacred Heart Catholic High School's two Mock Trial Teams competed March 1-2, 2013, in the 2013 Mississippi Mock Trial Championship Tournament at the Hinds County Courthouse in Jackson.  The Omega Team placed fifth among all teams competing.  The Alpha Team advanced to the final round at the Mississippi Supreme Court Building and defeated Long Beach High School to claim the State Championship.  They will travel to Indianapolis, Indiana, May 7-12, 2013, to represent Mississippi in the National Mock Trial Championships; and

     WHEREAS, the Omega Team includes the following students:  Carter Andrews, Maria Enger, Dylan Fink, Spencer Gibbs, Catherine McClain, Sarah McClain, Christina Rutland, Christian Shiyou and Jack Wilkins.  During the Awards Ceremony, Maria Enger and Catherine McClain each received two "Best Witness" citations, while Christina Rutland received two "Best Attorney" citations, and Dylan Fink received six "Best Attorney" citations; and

     WHEREAS, the Alpha Team includes the following students:  Nina Bellipanni, Zachary Bermond, Julianna Calabrese, Matt Gladden, Mason Hinton, Michael Jordan, Albert Nabiullin and Savannah Steadman.  During the Awards Ceremony, Mason Hinton received four Best Witness citations and Matt Gladden received two "Best Witness" citations.  Nina Bellipanni received three "Best Attorney" citations, Michael Jordan received one "Best Attorney" citation, and Albert Nabiullin received four "Best Attorney" citations; and

     WHEREAS, the Sacred Heart Catholic High School Mock Trial Teams are coached by Paul VanZandt and Attorneys Don Hinton, Carey Varnado, Katherine Howie and Sarah Snow.  The Mississippi Mock Trial Competition is directed by the Mississippi Bar Association's Young Lawyers Division, and includes Regional and State-Level Competitions; and

     WHEREAS, Sacred Heart Catholic School is a co-educational, college preparatory school located in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.  With an enrollment of 720 students in Prekindergarten through Twelfth Grade, Sacred Heart is the largest school in the Diocese of Biloxi.  Its Student Body is diverse, representing various racial, ethnic, economic and religious groups.  Sacred Heart Catholic School is fully accredited by the Mississippi State Department of Education and AdvancED/Southern Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize these young Mississippi citizens whose record of achievement has brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Sacred Heart Catholic High School (Hattiesburg) Alpha Mock Trial Team for winning the Mississippi Mock Trial Championship, and extend our best wishes for success in the National Competition.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the members and coaches of the Sacred Heart Mock Trial Team and Administrator Maurice Moreau, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
