A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE TUPELO CHRISTIAN PREPARATORY SCHOOL "EAGLES" BASEBALL TEAM AND COACH WILL LOWREY FOR WINNING THE 2016 CLASS 1A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, it is rare to see a triple play in baseball, but Tupelo Christian Preparatory "Eagles" fans witnessed one pulled off by first baseman Easton Hood, shortstop Cade Hill and pitcher Austin Laney in the 2016 Class 1A State Championship Game on May 21, 2016, at Trustmark Park in Pearl, Mississippi. The play was huge in Tupelo Christian Preparatory 5-4 victory that clinched a State Championship and a 25-12 record; and
WHEREAS, Tupelo Christian Preparatory Coach Will Lowrey was caught in a baseball dogpile with wild and crazy 15-, 16- and 17-year-old baseball players who had just won a State Title. "I have no words," he told reporters. "It's baseball, sometimes it bounces your way, sometimes it doesn't. All I can say is, the players didn't give up. Tupelo Christian Preparatory School rallied after falling behind 4-3 in the top of the seventh to win the Class 1A Championship on a walk-off single; and
WHEREAS, the Tupelo Christian Preparatory School program began in 2008. In a relatively short history of Tupelo Christian Preparatory School baseball, the Eagles have played in the 1A Semifinals three times, most recently losing in 2014 to eventual Champion Smithville. Tupelo Christian Preparatory won this season's Semifinal with a two-game sweep of Smithville; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Tupelo Christian Preparatory School "Eagles" Baseball Team and Coach Will Lowrey for winning the 2016 Class 1A State Championship, and extend our best wishes to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors for future success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Lowrey and Headmaster Ronnie Hill for the team, forwarded to the Tupelo Christian Preparatory School Board of Trustees, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
