A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE SIMPSON COUNTY ACADEMY "COUGARS" HIGH SCHOOL BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM AND LEGENDARY COACH JAMES CRAIN FOR WINNING "BACK-TO-BACK" MAIS CLASS AA STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS.

     WHEREAS, the Simpson Academy "Cougars" High School Boys Basketball Team captured their third MAIS State Class AA Championship by defeating Leake Academy 49-44 on February 21, 2015; and

     WHEREAS, this was a back-to-back State Championship (2014 and 2015) and the third Championship for the Cougars.  Simpson claimed the District Tournament Title and the South State Championship.  The Class AA State Championship is only the third in the school's 45-year history; and

     WHEREAS, the Simpson County Academy Cougars (34-6) won their 4th straight District Championship by defeating Laurel Christian in the MAIS Tournament Semifinals 76-19 under the direction of James Crain.  The Cougars led in scoring by Senior Isaiah Adkins with 20 points, Sam McWilliams put 16 on the board, and Jacob Berry 11; and

     WHEREAS, Simpson Coach James Crain has now won seven State Championships during his career.  Simpson Academy becomes the third school he has guided to a State Title.  Coach Crain now has a record of 142 wins and 41 losses at Simpson Academy; and

     WHEREAS, the 2014-2015 Simpson County Academy "Cougar" High School Boys Basketball Team Roster is:  Dylan Sanford, Ethan Brewer, Denver Jones, Jacob Berry, Jacob Holbrook, Isaiah Adkins, Matthew Harrison, Ryan McElroy, Sam McWilliams, Nicholas Broadhead, Hayden Groover and Hayden Berry; Head Coach James Crain; and Athletic Director Winston Mullins; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize these student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Simpson County Academy "Cougars" High School Boys Basketball Team and Coach James Crain for winning the 2014-2015 MAIS Class AA State Championship (back-to-back State Champs), and extend our best wishes for future academic and athletic success.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach James Crain and Headmaster Billy Wayne Hankins, forwarded to the Board of Trustees for Simpson Academy, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
