Senate Concurrent Resolution 594
(As Adopted by Senate and House)
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE SCOTT CENTRAL "LADY REBELS" BASKETBALL TEAM AND HEAD COACH CHAD HARRISON FOR WINNING THE MHSAA CLASS 2A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP AND FOR THEIR EXCELLENT 2012-2013 SEASON.
WHEREAS, trailing by 12 points headed into the fourth quarter, Scott Central High School Lady Rebels' Coach Chad Harrison thought his team would need a miracle. However, they only needed Victoria Vivians. Victoria Vivians put on a fourth-quarter offensive display that will surely be talked about for years to come. She put together a jaw-dropping shooting display in a 53-second span that had the coliseum crowd buzzing. She nailed back-to-back 3-pointers from the corner that cut it to 43-40. Then she banked in a 30-foot 3-pointer from straight away that sent the Scott Central fans into a frenzy, tying the score at 43-43 with 4:03 left. The Dandy Dozen junior scored 21 of her game-high 42 points in the final quarter to rescue Scott Central in a thrilling 52-49 victory in the Class 2A State Championship Game over defending State Champion New Site; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Rebels, ranked No. 2 in 2A, trailed the top-ranked Lady Royals 39-27 headed into the fourth quarter. It was familiar territory for Coach Harrison, who trailed by 14 against Bogue Chitto when he won his first title in 2000; and
WHEREAS, Victoria Vivians scored all but 10 of her team's points. Haley Watkins scored 7 and Teelisa Kennedy scored the other 3 for the Lady Rebels (33-4), who finished the season on a 25-game winning streak; and
WHEREAS, Scott Central "Lady Rebels" Basketball 2012-2013 Team accomplishments include: 33 and 4 Record, Class 2A State Champions, Class 2A South State Champions, Division 6 - Class 2A Tournament Champions, Division 6 - Class 2A Regular Season Champions, Scott County Tournament Champions, and Newton Invitational Tournament Champions; and
WHEREAS, Scott Central High School "Lady Rebels" Basketball 2012-2013 Team Roster: Haley Watkins, Teelisa Kennedy, Victoria Vivians, Kendreunna Butler, Holly Hendershot, Shamiyah Bobbitt, Alexus Odom, Ambriyana Roberts, Laquelia Odom, and Allyah Thomas; Head Coach Chad Harrison; Assistant Coach Lauren White; and Managers Roneshia Carter and Bailey Easterling; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this Championship Team and player who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Scott Central "Lady Rebels" Basketball Team and Head Coach Chad Harrison for winning the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 2A State Championship and for their excellent 2012-2013 season, and extend to the players, parents, coaches and sponsors our best wishes for future successes.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Harrison and Principal Debbie Herring for the team, forwarded to the Scott County Board of Education, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
