Senate Concurrent Resolution 594

(As Adopted by Senate and House)

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE TISHOMINGO COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL CHEERLEADING SQUAD AND COACHES BETH JAMES AND CHASITY MOORE FOR WINNING THE MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION CLASS 4-6A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, for the second time in two years, athletes from Tishomingo County High School have brought home a state title.  In 2009, Tishomingo County High School won the State Championship in Tennis Mixed Doubles, and the Cheer Squad won the State Championship in the early years of the school; and

WHEREAS, the Tishomingo County High School Cheerleaders won the Championship of the Mississippi High School Activities Association State Cheer Competition for the 4A, 5A and 6A Large Varsity Non-Tumbling Division on December 11, 2010, in Jackson, Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, the 20-member squad worked since last September to perfect their 2-1/2 minute routine that included dance, several stunts and cheers.  Their many after-school and Sunday practices, sore muscles and evaluations with professional cheer coaches paid off; they performed the routine flawlessly, and were spirited and engaging; and

WHEREAS, there were 49 high school squads that competed, with the final Awards Ceremony at the Championship.  The Mississippi Coliseum rang with cheers from those competing, and teams that were practicing.  In 2009 the squad won third in the same division, and in 2008 they placed in the dance division; and

WHEREAS, the difficulty level of the routine, added to their confident performance, put them ahead of the 8 other squads from all over the state.  The squad had a large following of parents, family members and friends who traveled to Jackson to support the girls; and

WHEREAS, Coaches Beth James and Chasity Moore and the girls appreciate everyone's support of them during the competition; and

WHEREAS, the Tishomingo County High School Cheerleaders are:  Mariah Lambert, Jayden Jones, Marlee Tigner, Brooke James, Mary McRae, Kayla Smith, Mary Beth Holt, Paisleigh Sanderson, Lauren Malone, Bailey Brewer, Rebecca Robertson, Megan Smith, Veronica Smith, Jessica Hester, Erica Young, Olivia Malone, Ali Cohn, Kamryn Jade Talley, Abby Adcock, and Kayla Bonds; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this talented group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Tishomingo County High School Cheerleading Squad and Coaches Beth James and Chasity Moore for winning the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 4-6A State Championship and extend our best wishes to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the Cheerleading Squad and Coaches Beth James and Chasity Moore, Principal Eddie Britton, forwarded to the Tishomingo County Board of Education, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
