A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THOMASSON COMPANY CEO PAT THOMASSON WHO HAS BEEN NAMED THE MISSISSIPPI BUSINESS JOURNAL'S 2014 BUSINESSWOMAN OF THE YEAR.

     WHEREAS, Thomasson Company CEO Pat Thomasson has been named the Mississippi Business Journal's 2014 Businesswoman of the Year; and

     WHEREAS, the announcement was made during a ceremony on February 27, 2014, at the Hilton of Jackson; and

     WHEREAS, the Thomasson Company provides pressure-treated utility poles of varying lengths and specifications for use by utility companies.  Depending on specific climate, Thomasson provides varying degrees of treatment designed to delay the decaying process and ensure pole longevity.  As CEO of the Thomasson Company in Neshoba County, she has increased the wood products company's sales by more than 50% to more than $60 Million without any acquisitions; and

     WHEREAS, an active member of the Women's Business Enterprise Council South, Thomasson is a strong advocate for other women in business and passionate about issues surrounding the business community; and

     WHEREAS, in 2010, she was elected President of the Mississippi Lumber Manufacturers Association.  Thomasson was the first female to achieve this position; and

     WHEREAS, a breast cancer survivor, Thomasson is also a graduate of the University of Mississippi and is Founder and Director of the Neshoba County Rebel Club, and serves as Secretary of the Rotary Club of Philadelphia; and

     WHEREAS, Pat was in very good company.  Other finalists included:  Phyllis Anderson, Tribal Chief, Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians; Debbie Bailey, Owner, Jimmy's Portable Building; Deidra Bell, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, St. Dominic Health Service; Cynthia Buchanan, Executive Vice President, Jackson Chamber, Greater Jackson Chamber Partnership; Julia Ann Harrison, President, Homestar, LLC; Mary Jackson, Senior Manager, Technical Support/Facilities Management, Comcast Cable-Madison; Willie Jones, President and Chief Executive Officer, Dependable Source Corporation of Mississippi; Candie Simmons, Senior Vice President, Regional Marketing Director, Regions Bank in Mississippi; Selena Swartzfager, President, Mississippi Council on Economic Education; and Mary Ashley Wolverton, Chief Financial Officer, DIG Creative Solutions; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we join the Mississippi Business Community in paying tribute to a successful businesswoman whose enormous civic energy is a wonderful example for all Mississippians:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize Pat Thomasson, who has been named the Mississippi Business Journal's 2014 Businesswoman of the Year, and extend our best wishes to Pat and her family on this auspicious occasion.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Pat Thomasson, forwarded to the Mississippi Development Authority and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
