A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE FLORENCE HIGH SCHOOL "LADY EAGLES" GIRLS SOCCER TEAM AND HEAD COACH GRAY MASSEY FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 2012-2013 SEASON AND FOR REPEATING AS MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION CLASS 4A STATE CHAMPION.

     WHEREAS, the Florence High School "Lady Eagles" Girls Soccer Team finished the 2012-2013 season by winning their second consecutive Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 4A Girls Soccer Championship by defeating the Knights of West Lauderdale on February 2, 2013, by a score of 2-0; and

     WHEREAS, in the first half of action, Florence took 19 shots at the goal where West Lauderdale was only allowed 3 shots.  Florence dominated play in the first half with the majority of the time being played at the West Lauderdale end of the field.  Florence scored on a shot by senior Lindy Tabor with 10:27 left in the first half and led 1-0.  The second half showed more aggressiveness on the part of West Lauderdale.  But, Florence had 17 shots at the goal where the Knights only had 4 shots.  Junior Ali Sullivan kicked a long shot with 22.41 left in the second half of play to put the Lady Eagles up 2-0.  The Lady Eagles held on to the two-goal advantage to win their second State Championship.  They won the 4A State Soccer Championship in 2012 and 2013; and

     WHEREAS, the Lady Eagles have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Gray Massey, who has been ably assisted by Assistant Coach Josh Cavanaugh and Managers Anna Claire Wooten and Brittney Jones.  Coach Massey will be leaving Florence to coach soccer at East Central Community College.  Coach Massey said he lost 7 seniors from the 2012 Championship Team.  "No one thought we would be here this year, but this is an amazing story.  They worked hard during the past year and they're here.  I'm proud of them.  This team has 4 seniors; 2 seniors are starters.  Next year's team should be here again.  They've got the experience"; and;

     WHEREAS, the 2012-2013 Lady Eagles High School Soccer Team Roster is comprised of the following athletes:  Mallory Ivey, GK, D, FB; McKenzie Sims, FORW; Ali Sullivan, MF; Haylee Howard, D, MF; Katie Carpenter, MF; Lindy Taylor, FORW; Alex Howard, MF; Ashley Langham, MF; Kayla Anderson, MF; Rylee Sulllivan, D; Abby Taylor, D; Kaitlynn Summerlin, FORW, D; Anna Duke, D, MF; Toni Riebock, D; Chelsey Williams, GK, MF; Nichole Keen, GK; Logan Courtney, MF; Hannah Runnels, D; Ashlyn Shields, MF; Analea West, FB; Hayden Sullivan, D; Skylar Guthrie, D; Madison Ingram, GK, FORW, MF; Lindsley Lingold, MF, D; Savannah Raines, MF; Allana  Brunson, MF; Ashlyn Spencer, D, MF; Anna Morgan Aultman, MF, D; Te'ah Byrd, MF; and Caseigh Hickman, D, MF; Coach Gray Massey; Assistant Coach Josh Cavanaugh; and

     WHEREAS, aside from their amazing athletic abilities on the soccer field, the Lady Eagles Soccer Team performs well in the classroom, boasting a particularly noteworthy overall grade point average of 3.662 on a 4.0 scale; and

     WHEREAS, in their tireless dedication, the Lady Eagles have developed a winning, cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitudes reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coach, bringing honor to Florence High School; and it is with great pride that we recognize this group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, community and state:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Florence High School Lady Eagles Girls Soccer Team and Head Coach Gray Massey for winning their second consecutive Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 4A Girls Soccer Championship, and extend best wishes to the team, coaches, managers and parents for continued success in all of their future athletic and academic endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Massey, Principal Tony Martin, the Rankin County School Board, and made available to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
