Senate Concurrent Resolution 574
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION PROPOSING TO CREATE A NEW SECTION 14A TO THE MISSISSIPPI CONSTITUTION OF 1890 TO PROTECT THE LIFE OF AN UNBORN CHILD AND TO DECLARE THAT OUR CERTAIN INALIENABLE RIGHTS INCLUDE THE RIGHT TO LIFE OF EVERY UNBORN CHILD.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That the following amendment to the Mississippi Constitution of 1890 is proposed to the qualified electors of the state:
Section 14A, Mississippi Constitution of 1890, is created to read as follows:
Section 14A. (1) The People of Mississippi recognize that we are endowed by our Creator with certain inalienable rights that include the right to life of every unborn child.
(2) Nothing in this Constitution creates a right to abortion or the public funding of abortion.
(3) The Legislature shall provide legal protection for the unborn child to the greatest extent legally possible.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this amendment shall be submitted to the qualified electors at an election to be held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday of November 2012, as provided by Section 273 of the Constitution and by law.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the explanation of this proposed constitutional amendment for the ballot shall read as follows: "This proposed constitutional amendment creates a new section to protect the life of every unborn child and that our certain inalienable rights include the right to life of every unborn child. The section also provides that nothing in the constitution creates a right to abortion or the use of public funds to pay for abortions."
