A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING "2015 DISTINGUISHED YOUNG WOMAN OF MISSISSIPPI" TANNER FANT FROM STARKVILLE, MISSISSIPPI.

     WHEREAS, Distinguished Young Women of Mississippi is an official state preliminary of Distinguished Young Women, a national scholarship program that promotes and rewards scholarship, leadership and talent in young women.  In addition to earning scholarships for college, those who participate in the Distinguished Young Women program develop friendships, self-confidence and other life skills that pave the way for future success.  The Distinguished Young Women experience is open to every eligible young woman; and

     WHEREAS, the 2015 Distinguished Young Woman of Mississippi is Tanner Fant from Starkville, Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, the Distinguished Young Women of Mississippi program was held in Meridian on July 27, 2014.  Tanner attends Starkville Academy.  Her activities and honors include:  Mississippi Governor's School Scholar, 4-County Electric Leadership Ambassador, Starkville Mayor's Youth Council, student council, cheerleader, Anchor Club, National Honor Society, competitive dancer, dance instructor, Let's Dance Program for special needs children, highest average in AP English, Spanish 3 and Anatomy and Physiology.  Her career goal is to be a Professional Dancer and Choreographer.  Her talent in the program was a Contemporary Dance ("Titanium" by Madilyn Bailey).  Tanner's parents are Robin and Dana Fant; and

     WHEREAS, Tanner is a wonderful example for young Mississippi citizens, and it is with great pride that we salute her record of achievement:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate "2015 Distinguished Young Woman of Mississippi" Tanner Fant from Starkville, Mississippi, and extend the best wishes of the Legislature to Tanner for success in the National Finals on June 25-27, 2015, in Mobile, Alabama.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Tanner and her family, forwarded to the Distinguished Young Women of Mississippi organization, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
