Senate Concurrent Resolution 572

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE ALCORN CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL "LADY BEARS" CHEER/DANCE TEAM FOR WINNING THE MHSAA CLASS 3A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP IN THEIR SECOND YEAR OF COMPETITION.

WHEREAS, Alcorn Central High School "Lady Bears" Cheer/Dance Team collected the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 3A "Hip Hop Title" at the 2010 State Cheer/Dance State Championship Competition in Jackson, Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, the 14-member squad won the State Crown in only its second year of competition at the Mississippi Coliseum; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Bears, who also competed in the pom event, posted an accumulative score of 439 in their 2:30 minute routine. The team was judged on energy, difficulty, formation, technique, transition and synchronization. Central's highest score came in technique and synchronization. Their scores from the five judges were 93, 90, 87, 85 and 84. "They are so excited and already talking about next year," said the second-year Dance Coach Candee Witt. "These girls don't know when to stop - they wouldn't quit"; and

WHEREAS, the turning point for the Lady Bears came in a summer camp at Panama City Beach, Florida. Choreographer Marlee Whitaker Ashe and Dance Instructor Volante Jones provided a big boost for the squad. The squad, made up of Honor Roll students who are involved in other school activities, has already had their team picture displayed on a billboard; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Bears, who practice three times a week, perform at home basketball games. The team will also take part in the Delta Blues Challenge in Tunica, Mississippi, on January 22; and

WHEREAS, members of the team are: Blake Marlar, Captain; Sara Windham, Co-Captain; Jenna Page, Co-Captain; Sierra Thompson, Tiffany Burnett; Sarah Grace Jones; Emily Strickland; Anna Wallace; Abby Little; Erica Doran; Lindee Witt; Lakin Little; Hannah Beth Knight; and Taylor Bordeleau; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize and commend the Alcorn Central High School "Lady Bears" Cheer/Dance Team for winning the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 3A State Championship "Hip Hop Title" and extend our best wishes to the team, coaches, and parents for their success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Candee Witt, Principal Tim Littlejohn and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
