A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING DAVID W. WAIDE UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AS PRESIDENT OF THE MISSISSIPPI FARM BUREAU FEDERATION AND FOR HIS RECEIPT OF THE MFBF DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD.
WHEREAS, longtime cattle and row crop farmer from Clay County and eighth President of the Mississippi Farm Bureau, David W. Waide was named the winner of Farm Bureau's Distinguished Service Award for 2010 at the organization's annual meeting on December 5, 2010. The Distinguished Service Award is the highest honor Farm Bureau bestows on an individual and it is reserved for someone who has truly made a difference in the lives of Mississippi farmers; and
WHEREAS, David Waide has served 14 years as Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation President and led the organization through many challenging periods, including the recovery from Hurricane Katrina. Farm Bureau led the effort to get fuel to farmers during that critical time to help them keep their animals from dying and their products from spoiling. He also helped manage the funds that were donated to the relief effort and made sure that those funds got to producers in need; and
WHEREAS, Waide stated that his goals as President were to further strengthen the organization's voice in the Legislature and raise its influence with regulatory agencies. He said he wanted regulators to understand that Farm Bureau would only accept decisions based on sound science and not upon emotion or what someone thought was a good idea. During his tenure as Farm Bureau President, Waide helped with the writing of three Farm Bills. These pieces of legislation lay out the rules for government support of agriculture. These support payments help farmers compete in a world marketplace and help keep prices low for American consumers; and
WHEREAS, David Waide of West Point, Mississippi, was elected President of the Mississippi Farm Bureau on December 9, 1996. The former Clay County supervisor has been active in Farm Bureau and other ag-related organizations much of his adult life. He was named to the Clay County Farm Bureau Board of Directors in 1969. He served as Clay County Farm Bureau President for 15 years and on the Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation Board of Directors for 4 years; and
WHEREAS, David has served as a Director for the Federal Land Bank of Houston, Mississippi, as a Director of the Mississippi Soil & Water Commission, as a Director of the Clay County Soil & Water Commission, as Chairman of the Federal Intermediate Credit Bank, and as a Director of the Clay County ASCS Committee. Waide also serves as President of: Mississippi Farm Bureau Casualty Insurance Company; Mississippi Farm Bureau Service Co., Inc.; Mississippi Farm Bureau Investment Corporation; Mississippi Farm Bureau Holding Corporation; and on the Boards of Directors of: American Farm Bureau Federation; Southern Farm Bureau Life Insurance Company; and Southern Farm Bureau Casualty Insurance Company; and
WHEREAS, awards received by Waide include the Presidential Citation by the Mississippi Association of County Agricultural Agents, and 1999 Citizen of the Year in Clay County, Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, he is active in the Siloam Baptist Church in West Point and has been involved in the Clay County Ag Club. David and his wife, Sandra, have two children, Whit and Linda Bess; and
WHEREAS, David Waide has been a diligent advocate for Mississippi farmers and livestock producers; and it is with great pride that we note the public service record of a very effective Mississippi business leader:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize and commend David W. Waide of West Point, Mississippi, upon the occasion of his retirement as the eighth President of the Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation and for his receipt of the MFBF Distinguished Service Award, and extend our best wishes to David and his family and the thanks of a grateful state.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to David Waide and his family, forwarded to the Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
