A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MOLLY KATHLEEN MAY AS MISS MISSISSIPPI'S OUTSTANDING TEEN 2012.

     WHEREAS, Molly Kathleen May, 18, of Houston, Mississippi, was crowned Miss Mississippi's Outstanding Teen 2012 on June 2, 2012.  Twenty-nine girls competed for the coveted title to represent Mississippi in the Miss America's Outstanding Teen Pageant which was held in Orlando, Florida, in August 2012.  While at the state competition, Molly was honored to not only take home the Title of Miss Mississippi's Outstanding Teen but also the overall Talent, overall Evening Gown, and overall Interview awards.  Along with her crown and title, Molly won over $4,000.00 in cash scholarships and $30,000.00 in tuition waiver scholarships; and

     WHEREAS, while representing the State of Mississippi at the 2012 Miss America's Outstanding Teen Pageant held in Orlando in August, Molly was recognized among the 53 representatives by not only being named as a preliminary talent winner but also as the 4th runner-up to Miss America's Outstanding Teen.  Molly is the first Miss Mississippi's Outstanding Teen to be recognized as a preliminary talent winner and named as a Top 5 finalist on the national level; and

     WHEREAS, Molly is the daughter of Debra May of Houston, Mississippi.  Molly is a senior at Houston High School in Houston, Mississippi, and will graduate in May 2013.  She is an integral part of her school community by serving as President of the Student Council; Drum Major for the Houston High School Band; Drum Line Captain; and Editor-in-Chief of the Houston Yearbook; and

     WHEREAS, Molly is an advocate for breast cancer patients, survivors and their families by sharing her message of "The Power of Pink" regarding the much-needed awareness of breast cancer education and inspiration.  This is a platform and passion that is near and dear to her heart.  She has spoken to numerous community organizations and raised money to combat this deadly disease.  Additionally, Molly serves as the state's Teen Goodwill Ambassador for the Children's Miracle Network (CMN) where she brings awareness to the needs of CMN Hospitals across the country; and

     WHEREAS, Molly is an active member of her church, First Baptist Church of Houston, where she sings in the church choir, is a member of the handbell choir, an active member of the youth group, and volunteers with Vacation Bible School; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride we note the accomplishments of this talented young Mississippian who has brought honor to her community, her school, and her state:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Molly Kathleen May of Houston, Mississippi, Miss Mississippi's Outstanding Teen 2012, for the contributions she has made as an unofficial Ambassador for our state, and extend to her our best wishes in her future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution he presented to Molly Kathleen May and her family, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
