Senate Concurrent Resolution 557

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION DESIGNATING MONDAY, FEBRUARY 9, 2015, AS "CONNECTIONS FOR CARDIOVASCULAR HEALTH DAY" IN MISSISSIPPI.

     WHEREAS, heart disease accounts for 26% of all deaths in Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, Mississippi has the highest death rate in the country from cardiovascular disease; and

     WHEREAS, Manna Ministries, Inc., has established the Heart 2 Heart Initiative to engage the community in Southern Mississippi and collaborate on improving cardiovascular disease awareness while improving the quality of care and patient education through community outreach in the delivery of screening, treatment and heart-healthy lifestyle support; and

     WHEREAS, Manna Ministries, Inc., has worked to raise awareness about the need for innovative, community-based approaches to turn the tide against heart disease in Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, the establishment of "Connections for Cardiovascular Health Day" provides an opportunity for Mississippians to join together in their communities to improve cardiovascular health and raise awareness about the programs and support services across the state that play a critical role in heart health:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby designate Monday, February 9, 2015, as "Connections for Cardiovascular Health Day" in Mississippi and encourage all citizens to connect with their community to promote cardiovascular health.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be disseminated by the State Department of Health to county health departments for appropriate public health awareness campaigns, clinics and events, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
