Senate Concurrent Resolution 548

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING RANDY KNIGHT OF PELAHATCHIE, MISSISSIPPI, UPON HIS SELECTION AS PRESIDENT OF THE MISSISSIPPI FARM BUREAU FEDERATION.

     WHEREAS, Randy Knight, a respected dairy farmer from Pelahatchie, Mississippi, in Rankin County, has been elected President of the Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation; and

     WHEREAS, Knight is a graduate of Hinds Junior College with a degree in farm management, and attended Mississippi State University, where he studied dairy science.  He operates a dairy in Pelahatchie and also runs 400 head of stocker calves and manages several hundred acres of pasture and timberland; and

     WHEREAS, Randy has strived to emphasize Ag in The Classroom Program, to reach our children at an early age with agriculture's story, strengthen our Young Farmers and Ranchers program and continue to support ag media campaign, which is an effective means of educating consumers about agriculture; and

     WHEREAS, Randy Knight served a three-year term as President of Rankin County Farm Bureau.  He also served on the Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation Board of Directors for two years and just concluded serving his fourth year as MFBF Central Mississippi Vice President; and

     WHEREAS, he is a member of Dairy Farmers of America and the Mississippi Cattleman's Association.  He serves on the Boards of Grazing Land Management for the Natural Resources Conservation Service, the Southeastern United Dairy Association and the Neshoba County Gin Association; and

     WHEREAS, "I am optimistic about the future of farming, but we cannot rest," said Knight.  "We must continue to work together, with an open line of communication between county leaders, state officers and MFBF staff, to ensure that our organization remains strong, representing the interests of all Mississippi farmers for many years to come"; and

     WHEREAS, Randy Knight is an active member of the Shiloh United Methodist Church.  He and his wife, Mary, have two daughters, and it is with great pride that we welcome this respected agri-businessman to his new role of leadership to the citizens of the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Randy Knight of Pelahatchie, Mississippi, upon his selection as the President of the Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation, and express our best wishes to him and his family on this auspicious occasion.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Randy Knight, forwarded to the Board of Directors of the Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
