A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE OUTSTANDING AND DEDICATED SERVICE OF GERALD D. WAGES, EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT OF NORTH MISSISSIPPI HEALTH SERVICES, AND CONGRATULATING HIM UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT.

     WHEREAS, Gerald D. Wages, Executive Vice President for External Affairs for North Mississippi Health Services in Tupelo, will retire from full-time employment on January 31, 2012; and

     WHEREAS, in his current position, he is responsible for the operation of the community hospital system as well as the external activities for the North Mississippi Health Services organization; and

     WHEREAS, Gerald joined the Medical Center in 1969 as Assistant Administrator and Chief Financial Officer; and

     WHEREAS, during his tenure, Gerald has served in a number of administrative positions in the organization, including Interim President, Chief Operating Officer, Executive Vice President for Finance and Vice President for Corporate Services; and

     WHEREAS, Gerald is a graduate of Tupelo High School and the University of Mississippi, where he earned a bachelor's degree in Accounting and later became a Certified Public Accountant; and

     WHEREAS, as a healthcare professional, Gerald has served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the American Hospital Association and has chaired the American Hospital Association Regional Policy Board for Region 4; and

     WHEREAS, Gerald has served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Mississippi Hospital Association, and as the group's Chairman during 2005-2006; and

     WHEREAS, he is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants; and

     WHEREAS, Gerald has been active in his community, serving the Community Development Foundation, the United Way of Northeast Mississippi as its President in 2006, Alpha House for Boys, MEGAPOP, and is a board member of St. Luke United Methodist Church; and

     WHEREAS, Gerald Wages is among the most respected citizens of his community while striving for excellence in his contributions to the area's healthcare needs; and

     WHEREAS, it is with pride that we recognize the career of this outstanding and dedicated healthcare Administrator who has greatly contributed to his community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the dedicated career of Gerald D. Wages, Executive Vice president for External Affairs of North Mississippi Health Services, and offer sincere congratulations to him upon the occasion of his retirement from full-time service.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Gerald D. Wages and that copies be made available to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
