Senate Concurrent Resolution 531

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION MOURNING THE LOSS AND COMMENDING THE LIFE AND PUBLIC SERVICE OF FORMER SENATOR AND MISSISSIPPI REPRESENTATIVE AND RESPECTED ATTORNEY WILLIAM SIDNEY GUY, JR, ORIGINALLY OF MCCOMB, MISSISSIPPI, AND EXPRESSING THE SYMPATHY OF THE LEGISLATURE ON HIS PASSING.

WHEREAS, the Legislature and the State of Mississippi lost a friend, colleague, gentleman and enlightened attorney with the death of former State Senator and State Representative William Sidney Guy, Jr., (78) on September 22, 2015. He was a native of McComb, Mississippi, and resident of Houma, Louisiana; and

WHEREAS, a graduate of the University of Mississippi School of Law, he was admitted to practice in 1963. He was a member of American Trial Lawyers' Association, and various other associations; and

WHEREAS, William Sidney (Bill) Guy served in the Mississippi House of Representatives 1968-1976, and served in the Mississippi Senate 1976-1979. In the Senate he served on the following committees: Corrections, Education, Fees and Salaries, Finance and Judiciary B; and

WHEREAS, he is survived by his wife, Janice Seale Guy; sons: William Stacy Alford, Kenneth Guy and Clayton Guy; and daughter; Polly Boone; sister, Allyne (Shorty) Dunaway; and ten grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, William Guy was a most respected member of the Mississippi State Senate, Mississippi House of Representatives and The Mississippi Bar. He had a commanding presence but was soft-spoken. He excelled in a variety of major responsibilities and served the Senate, House, The Mississippi Bar, his constituents, colleagues and the State of Mississippi exceptionally well. William's public service was exemplified by fairness and sound judgment, and he set the highest standard as a leader in the Legislature and the Mississippi judicial system:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby mourn the loss and commend the life and legacy of public service of former Senator, Representative, and Attorney William Sidney Guy of McComb, Mississippi, and express to his family the sympathy of the Legislature on his passing and our thanks for sharing William with us and with the State of Mississippi.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the family of former Senator William Sidney Guy, forwarded to the Mississippi State Bar Association, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
