A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE INDIANA STATE REPRESENTATIVE CHERRISH PRYOR FROM HOLLY SPRINGS, MISSISSIPPI, UPON HER ELECTION AS CHAIR OF THE INDIANA BLACK LEGISLATIVE CAUCUS.

WHEREAS, State Representative Cherrish Pryor (D-Indianapolis), a member of the Indiana House of Representatives since 2008, and a native of Holly Springs, Mississippi, has been elected the new leader of the Indiana Black Legislative Caucus (IBLC). Caucus members selected Pryor as the group's chair during an Indiana Black Legislative Caucus organizational meeting on November 22, 2016. She succeeds State Senator Lonnie Randolph (D-East Chicago) as leader of the 13-member group; and

WHEREAS, Representative Pryor is a native of Holly Springs, Mississippi, and has lived in Indiana since 1986. She graduated from South Side High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana, in 1988. She moved to Indianapolis in 1995 to work for the Indiana House of Representatives as a Legislative Assistant. She is a Democratic member of the Indiana House of Representatives, representing the 94th District since 2008; and

WHEREAS, Representative Pryor began her political career as an Indianapolis City-County Council member, representing the 7th District from 2007 to 2008; and

WHEREAS, Representative Pryor's professional experience include:

� Former Public Affairs Director, Indianapolis Marion County City-County Council;

� Former Consultant/Real Estate Manager, Marion County; Auditor's Office; and

� Manager, Community Outreach, BrightPoint, 2011-2012.

Her religious, civic and other memberships include:

� Board member, Noble of Indiana, present;

� Board member, Peace Learning Center, present;

� Member, Board of Directors, Progressive Baptist Church;

� Member, Concerned Clergy;

� Former Lobbyist, Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce;

� Member, Indiana University Alumni Association;

� Member, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), Indianapolis Chapter;

� Member, National Black Masters in Business Administration Association, Indianapolis Chapter;

� Member, National Conference of State Legislators;

� Member, Pike Township Young Men's Christian Association Campaign Committees;

� Former Program Director, State Student Assistance Commission;

� Member, Tillman H. Harpole American Legion, Post 249 Auxiliary;

� Member, Top Ladies of Distinction;

� Member, United Way of Central Indiana Governance Committee;

� Member, Women in Government Leadership Program Class, 2016.

� Former Director, State Student Assistance Commission; and

WHEREAS, "My pledge is that the Indiana Black Legislative Caucus will serve as an active voice for minority communities across the State of Indiana" Representative Pryor stated "The Indiana Black Legislative Caucus stands ready to commit to protecting the rights of minorities in such areas as civil rights, economic development and education. We fully intend to stand up and be heard, starting in the 2017 Legislative Session"; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we commend a native Mississippian whose mastery of the legislative process and decisive leadership has built an indelible legacy of progress on behalf of the citizens of Indiana:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize and congratulate Indiana State Representative Cherrish Pryor from Holly Springs, Mississippi, upon her election as Chair of the Indiana Black Legislative Caucus and extend the best wishes of the Mississippi Legislature for her future success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Representative Pryor and her family, forwarded to the Indiana Speaker of the House of Representatives, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
