Senate Concurrent Resolution 528

(As Adopted by Senate and House)

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION TO RECOGNIZE AND SALUTE THE JACKSON PREPARATORY SCHOOL "PATRIOTS" FOOTBALL TEAM AND HEAD COACH RICKY BLACK FOR THEIR 21ST MAIS CLASS AAA TITLE.

WHEREAS, the offense credited the defense.  The defense tipped its cap to the offense.  There were certainly plenty of congratulations to go around for Jackson Prep on November 21, 2014, at Robinson-Hale Stadium in Clinton.  With a been-there, done-that coolness to their performance, the Jackson Prep "Patriots" breezed to their 21st MAIS AAA Division I Title with a 35-7 win over Madison-Ridgeland Academy; and

WHEREAS, "We really couldn't have played a better game," Jackson Prep Coach Ricky Black said.  "This feeling never gets old."  It is familiar territory for the Patriots and Coach Black, who notched his ninth State Championship at Jackson Prep; and

WHEREAS, it was an emotional victory for the Patriots who dedicated the Championship Game to Jackson Prep lineman Walker Wilbanks, 17, who died from hyponatremia during the Patriots' season opener.  As the final seconds ticked off the scoreboard, both students' sections began to chant "Walker Wilbanks."  Wilbanks' father, David, was also on the sideline donning his son's No. 65 jersey; and

WHEREAS, running back Ian McGraw had been the team's workhorse all season.  McGraw posted a hard-fought 151 yards on 22 carriers, including two touchdowns; and

WHEREAS, the 2014 Patriots Roster is:  Haynes Horsley, Biggs Henry, Noah Tidwell, Adam Crawford, Mitch Redding, Vann Crawford, Trace Lovertich, Carl Upton, Parker Caracci, Gene Wood, Kaleb Lovertich, Adam Stovall, Harrison Moore, Worth Eskrigge, Dylan Torrence, Creed Franklin, Peyton Parker, Camp Geary, Jake Newsome, Cooper Henry, Josh Pound, Jacob Crawley, Lee Meena, Ian McGraw, Harrison Porter, John-Nix Arledge, Hunter Patterson, William Garrard, Joseph Upton, Hays Dubberly, Rivers McGraw, Jake Ray, Chris Puckett, John Keeler, JoJo Pound, Jack Young, Witt Lovelace, Graham Eklund, Thomas Phillips, Ross Edwards, Brock Loposer, Sam Mosley, Tate Fowler, Sam Fulton, Will Massey, Barrett Bufkin, J.C. Pride, Kristian Crotwell, Xavier Keys, Jacob Aron, John Wooley, Matthew Myers, Wesley Williams, Spencer Sasser, Damion Bryant, Brock Newman, Brady Culbertson, Walker Wilbanks, Noah Sasser, Wade Ward, Noah Slack, Matthew Clay, Tyler Tyree, Cole Swayze, Zachary Gay, Healy Vise, Ross Carter, Noah Allen, Taylor Wallace, and Griffin Callender; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we commend this team of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize and salute the Jackson Preparatory School "Patriots" Football Team and Head Coach Ricky Black for their 21st MAIS Class AAA Title, and extend the best wishes of the Legislature to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors for future success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Ricky Black for the team, Jackson Prep Headmaster Jason L. Walton, forwarded to the Jackson Prep Board of Trustees, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
