A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE CIVIC LEADERSHIP AND CHARITABLE SERVICES OF PRESBYTERIAN CHRISTIAN SCHOOL FOUNDING BOARD MEMBER MR. JERE GUNN.

     WHEREAS, Mr. Jere Gunn has been an instrumental and significant part of the history of Presbyterian Christian School in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, since its inception; and

     WHEREAS, on February 29, 1976, Mr. Gunn was part of the original motion passed by the session of Bay Street Presbyterian Church to start a Christian day school; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Gunn was a founding member of the Board of Directors for Presbyterian Christian School and served on this board for forty years, from July 1976 until May 2016; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Gunn's involvement with the school was not simply as a board member, but also included overseeing every building project in the school's history over the past forty years; and

     WHEREAS, whenever called upon, Mr. Gunn graciously gave spiritual, financial and physical support to the school throughout his involvement; and

     WHEREAS, under his oversight, Presbyterian Christian School has grown from 23 students to over 950 students, making it the largest Christian school in the State of Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Gunn's service to Presbyterian Christian School has been recognized by the school through the naming of the most prestigious academic honor society, the Gunn Scholars, after him and his wife, Tillie; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Gunn's longtime service to Presbyterian Christian School has also been recognized by the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools with their Lifetime Achievement Award, its highest honor; and

     WHEREAS, the retirement of this founding member is a worthy moment to pause and give thanks for this investment in the life of Presbyterian Christian School and in the wonderful educational legacy left by this Mississippi citizen:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the civic leadership and charitable services of Presbyterian Christian School founding Board Member Mr. Jere Gunn and extend the thanks of a grateful state for his influence in the lives of so many for God's glory.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Mr. Jere Gunn and his family as a token of our appreciation, gratitude, and love, forwarded to the Board of Directors for Presbyterian Christian School, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
