A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE GERMANTOWN HIGH SCHOOL "MAVERICKS" DANCE TEAM AND COACH KRISTY HAWKINS FOR WINNING THE SCHOOL'S FIRST CLASS 4A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, the first-ever State Championship at Germantown High School did not happen on the gridiron, the hardwood or the baseball diamond. It happened on the dance floor. The Germantown High School "Mavericks" Dance Team, coached by Kristy Hawkins, earned the honor of the school's first State Title recently winning the Class 4A State Championship in Hip-Hop Dance. The girls also finished third in the High-Kick Division; and

WHEREAS, Coach Hawkins said, "Hearing their names called out was a surprise, despite the abundance of talent on the Mavericks' Squad. They worked hard all year and it's exciting to represent such a great school in the championships." She pointed to senior Paige Ford and juniors Emily Bernardi, Sidney D'Amico, Shelby Given, Raeleigh Harper, Darby Hughes and Sarah Sullivan for providing leadership and advice for some of the younger dancers; and

WHEREAS, the Mavericks Dance Team began practicing regularly back in May, and not only practiced during their allotted block during school, but also practiced after school twice a week. During football season, the girls were regularly performing at football games and pep rallies and are now performing at basketball games; and

WHEREAS, the 2011 Germantown High School Mavericks Dance Team Roster is as follows: Sherrica Brown, Jazmine Ware, Casey Simoneaux, Sarah Sullivan, Sidney D'Amico, Shanna Butterfield, Leah Whiticker, Abby George, Paige Ford; Emily Bernardi, Regan Powell, Raeleigh Harper, McKenna Baker, Morgan-Louise Solari, Tori Browning, Madison James; Mary Morgan House, Sierra Horel, Jenna Kirk, Caitlin Gardner, Ariel Griffin, Alexia Kirkland, Darby Hughes and Shelby Given; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this unique achievement by a talented group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, to their community, to Madison County and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Germantown High School "Mavericks" Dance Team and Coach Kristy Hawkins for winning the Class 4A State Championship in Hip-Hop Dance, the school's first-ever State Title, and extend to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors our best wishes for future success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the Germantown High School Dance Team and Principal Ted Poore, forwarded to the Madison County School Board and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
