A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION MOURNING THE LOSS AND COMMENDING THE PUBLIC SERVICE OF DAVID JERRELL POFF, FORMER BENTON COUNTY JUSTICE COURT JUDGE AND ALDERMAN FOR THE TOWN OF ASHLAND.

     WHEREAS, David Jerrell Poff, former Benton County Justice Court Judge and member of the Board of Aldermen for the Town of Ashland, Mississippi, passed away on Wednesday, August 25, 2010; and

     WHEREAS, he was born on May 16, 1937, in Ashland, Mississippi, to James Washington Poff and Ella Hardy; and

     WHEREAS, David Poff served on the Ashland Board of Aldermen from 1989-1997, the Benton County School Board for one term, and as Justice Court Judge/Justice of the Peace from 1980-1988; and

     WHEREAS, David Poff was the owner of Poff's Grocery, a Baptist and a United States Army Veteran; and

     WHEREAS, survivors include two sons, Mark Poff (Beverly) and Eric Poff (Jade); one daughter, Vikki Barber (Ken); four brothers, J.W. Poff, John Edward "Bubby" Poff, Dewey Poff and Joel Poff; one sister, Arlene Gibson (Carl); eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Amma Christine Poff, and his parents; and

     WHEREAS, it is with sadness that we note the passing of this respected public servant and military veteran whose dedication to his city, county and to the State of Mississippi serves as an example to all citizens:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby mourn the loss and commend the life of public service of David Jerrell Poff, former Benton County Justice Court Judge and Alderman for the Town of Ashland, Mississippi, and extend the sympathy of the Legislature to his surviving family on his passing.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the surviving family of Mr. Poff, forwarded to the Benton County Board of Supervisors and the Board of Aldermen for the Town of Ashland, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
