A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST COMMUNITY COLLEGE "BULLDOGS" FOOTBALL TEAM AND HEAD COACH STEVE CAMPBELL FOR THEIR STATE CHAMPIONSHIP AND VICTORY IN THE THIRD ANNUAL MISSISSIPPI BOWL.

     WHEREAS, quarterback Clayton Moore completed 26 of 47 passes for 354 yards and 4 touchdowns December 5, 2010, to lead Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (MGCCC) to a 62-53 victory over Grand Rapids Community College (Michigan) in the third annual Mississippi Bowl; and

     WHEREAS, for the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges Champion and seventh-ranked Bulldogs, winning the Bowl at Biloxi Indian Stadium for the second time in 3 years finished their season 10-2; and

     WHEREAS, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College quarterback Clayton Moore and his talented array of receivers carved up the Grand Rapids secondary before 3,100 fans in the third annual Mississippi Bowl; but it was a defensive play, an interception by Lamar Johnson with 1:35 left in regulation, that iced the Bulldogs' 62-53 victory over third-ranked Grand Rapids on a frigid afternoon in Biloxi Stadium.  Moore and Grand Rapids quarterback James Stallons combined for over more than 800 passing yards; and

     WHEREAS, Moore was named the Mississippi Bowl offensive Most Valuable Player for MGCCC while Stallons took the same honor for Grand Rapids.  Moore completed 26 of 46 passes for 3,534 yards and 4 touchdowns.  He hit Curt Amacker with a 15-yard touchdown pass, Mo Milliam with a 42-yard scoring strike, and Javon Bell with 2 touchdown passes - of 2 and 15 yards; and

     WHEREAS, the win by the Bulldogs (10-2) is the second in 3 years at the Mississippi Bowl and is sure to move Gulf Coast higher in the final National Junior College Athletic Association rankings.  Bulldog Head Coach Steve Campbell is now 3-2 all-time in bowl games while at Gulf Coast and is in his seventh season as MGCCC Head Coach and 22nd year in college coaching.  "I told the sophomores this is the way you want to end the season," said Campbell.  "They'll remember this victory as long as they live"; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize the special accomplishments of this squad of student athletes who have brought honor to their college, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (MGCCC) "Bulldogs" 2010 Football Team and Head Coach Steve Campbell for their 2010 Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) State Championship and their victory in the third Mississippi Bowl in Biloxi and their national ranking, and extend to the players, coaches and families our best wishes for success in their future athletic and academic endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Steve Campbell and Dr. Willis Lott, President of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, forwarded to the Board of Trustees of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
