A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE DEDICATED PUBLIC SERVICE OF LONGTIME DIRECTOR OF THE LEGISLATIVE REFERENCE BUREAU CASEY PACE ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT.

     WHEREAS, longtime Director of the Legislative Reference Bureau, Honorable Casey Culpepper Pace, announced his retirement effective July 1, 2011.  Casey was appointed as Director of the Legislative Reference Bureau in August of 1990; and

     WHEREAS, the Legislative Reference Bureau is a Joint Operation of the Mississippi Legislature located in the basement level of the New Capitol which operates a law library specific to legislative issues.  The staff of the Legislative Reference Bureau provides invaluable legal research services for members of the Legislature and the House and Senate Drafting Offices; and

     WHEREAS, although he was born in Washington, Casey says his roots are in Mississippi.  He is the son of the late Courtney Pace, longtime Administrative Assistant to Senator Jim Eastland; and

     WHEREAS, Casey is a graduate of the University of Mississippi and the Ole Miss Law School.  He has worked as a stockbroker with a number of Jackson firms since 1984 and has done legal consulting work.  Previously, he was a member of the Mississippi Research and Development Center staff from 1974 to 1984, holding a number of research and administrative positions.  He was Assistant Director of Program Planning and Evaluation when he left the R&D Center; and

     WHEREAS, Casey (wife, Mary Martha) has three children, Margaret Courtney Pace, John Pace and Charlotte Murray Pace (deceased).  Casey is a sports enthusiast and has been active as a licensed amateur soccer coach; and

     WHEREAS, Casey's professional service to the Mississippi Legislature is a matter of record and he will be missed.  His spirit and intellect enriched the lives of his colleagues, and it is with pride that we note the public service career of this Mississippian:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize and commend the dedicated professional public service of Casey Culpepper Pace, longtime Director of the Legislative Reference Bureau, and extend to Casey and his family our best wishes on the occasion of his retirement.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Casey Pace and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
