A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING ANNA ELIZABETH TADLOCK FOR BEING CROWNED MISS MISSISSIPPI 2009.
WHEREAS, Anna Elizabeth Tadlock, 23, of Brandon, Mississippi, was crowned "Miss Mississippi 2009" by Christine Kozlowski, Miss Mississippi 2008, Saturday, July 18, 2009. Forty-seven girls competed for the coveted title to represent Mississippi in the Miss America Pageant to be held in Las Vegas in January 2010; and
WHEREAS, Anna won her preliminary as Miss New South to qualify for the Miss Mississippi Pageant. Along with the title and crown comes a $10,000.00 scholarship; and
WHEREAS, Anna is the daughter of Tommy and Felicia Tadlock of Brandon, Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, Anna Tadlock is the first Rankin County Miss Mississippi since Mary Ann Mobley was crowned Miss Mississippi in 1959 and went on to be crowned Miss America; and
WHEREAS, Anna is a 2008 graduate of Mississippi State University with a major in communications/public relations. She is currently working on a Master of Arts in Teaching with an English emphasis, and has a career ambition to be an English teacher on the high school or college level. Until April 2009 Anna was Employment Director of Recruiting for the Spinks Group of Northwestern Mutual Financial Network; and
WHEREAS, Anna graduated from Northwest Rankin High School in 2004; and
WHEREAS, her platform was music as a positive influence on children's education. She has a characteristic of not giving up and being persistent. This was her fourth appearance in the Miss Mississippi Pageant; and
WHEREAS, Anna's Saturday night talent was a vocal performance of "A New Life" from the Broadway Musical "Jekyll and Hyde." She thrilled the audience with her singing; and
WHEREAS, the Miss Mississippi Pageant sent a questionnaire to all contestants and one of their questions was "Tell us about what leadership roles you have created or stepped into?" Anna answered that her most current leadership role is acting as a worship leader for a small Bible study group at the First Baptist Church in Jackson known as Static. The ministry is targeted toward young adults in their 20s. While at MSU, she served in several leadership roles. She was selected as a Roadrunner Student Recruiter in 2005 and served the organization for three years, and also acted as mentor for a student organization called Faith Anchors, which is a Christian mentor group for freshmen and transfer students (2006-2008). She also served as Vice President of Programming for Order of Omega Honor Society (2007-2008) and Secretary for Lambda Sigma Honor Society (2005-2006); and
WHEREAS, Anna Tadlock is a native of Brookhaven, and her family moved to Rankin County when she was 12 years old; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we note the accomplishments of this talented young Mississippian who has brought honor to her community, her university and her state: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Anna Elizabeth Tadlock, Miss Mississippi 2009, for the contributions she has made as ambassador for our state, and extend to her our best wishes in her future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Anna Elizabeth Tadlock and her family and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
