AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 7-7-203, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO REVISE THE ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE FOR THE DIVISIONS OF THE DEPARTMENT OF AUDIT; TO AUTHORIZE THE STATE AUDITOR TO CONTRACT FOR ANY SERVICE TO CARRY OUT HIS STATUTORY DUTIES; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. Section 7-7-203, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:
7-7-203. The State Auditor shall appoint a director of the Financial and Compliance Division and a director of the Investigations Division for the Department of Audit. * * * The director of the Financial and Compliance Division shall be a certified public accountant of recognized executive ability and thoroughly familiar with the laws of the state in relation to the financial administration of the public offices thereof. The director of the Investigations Division shall be a certified law enforcement officer of recognized executive ability and thoroughly familiar with the laws of this state in relation to the civil/criminal investigations of the public offices thereof. The State Auditor may appoint deputy auditors and employ attorneys, certified public accountants and other assistants, or may contract for any service necessary to carry out the provisions of this article.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2012.
