Senate Bill 2606

AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE AND DIRECT THE STATE PERSONNEL BOARD TO AMEND THE VARIABLE COMPENSATION PLAN AS NECESSARY TO AWARD A SALARY INCREASE TO EACH SWORN OFFICER IN THE MISSISSIPPI HIGHWAY SAFETY PATROL AND THE MISSISSIPPI BUREAU OF NARCOTICS WHOSE SALARY IS FUNDED BY THE STATE GENERAL FUND, FEDERAL FUNDS OR SPECIAL FUNDS IN THE AMOUNT OF A $7,500.00 ACROSS-THE-BOARD INCREASE PER YEAR BEGINNING JULY 1, 2019; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  The State Personnel Board, the Commissioner of Public Safety and the Director of the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics are hereby authorized and directed, on July 1, 2019, to grant an increase in salary to each full-time sworn officer in the Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol and the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics whose salary is funded by the State General Fund, federal funds or special funds pursuant to appropriation therefor by the Legislature, which increase shall be an amount of Seven Thousand Five Hundred Dollars ($7,500.00) per year over and above that sum which is the annual compensation of the officer in effect on June 30, 2019.  Part-time state officers shall receive a pro rata share of a Seven Thousand Five Hundred Dollar ($7,500.00) salary increase based on the amount of time worked per week.  The State Personnel Board shall amend the State Variable Compensation in accordance with this requirement.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2019.
