AN ACT TO PROVIDE THAT A CHANCERY JUDGE MAY ASSESS A DELINQUENT CHILD SUPPORT PARENT SERVING TIME FOR CONTEMPT FOR THE COUNTY'S COST OF CONFINEMENT; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. A chancery judge may assess a parent who is jailed for contempt due to failure to pay child support for the costs of his confinement. The cost may include, but is not limited to: food, medical attention, and staff expenses; the obligation for any cost assessed pursuant to this section shall be subordinate to the parent's child support obligation.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2011.
