Senate Bill 2341

AN ACT TO DIRECT THE MISSISSIPPI DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY AND MISSISSIPPI PRISON INDUSTRIES TO ENTER INTO A MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING TO DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT A PROGRAM USING PRISON LABOR TO PREVENT PLANT CLOSINGS DUE TO THE EXODUS OF JOBS TO FOREIGN MARKETS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  To effectively develop and administer a program on the feasibility of using prison labor to prevent plant closings and loss of jobs due to the exodus of jobs to foreign markets, the Mississippi Development Authority and Mississippi Prison Industries shall enter into a memorandum of understanding clearly defining the responsibilities of each agency, the sharing of information, communication and coordination between the two (2) agencies.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
