Senate Bill 2245
AN ACT TO REQUIRE THAT NO PUBLIC FUNDS SHALL BE INVESTED IN ANY FINANCIAL INVESTMENT THAT HAS RELATIONSHIPS WITH TERRORIST-SPONSORING NATIONS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. It is the intent of the Legislature that the Public Employees' Retirement System, the Highway Safety Patrol Retirement System, all municipal retirement systems created under the General Municipal Employees' Retirement Law, a system created under Section 21-29-101 et seq. and any agency of the state or a political subdivision thereof which invests any funds immediately shall enact all necessary provisions and take all necessary actions to ensure that no public funds are invested in entities that have direct financial relationships with the U.S. State Department-designated terrorist-sponsoring states including the governments of Iran, Sudan, Syria and North Korea and to replace any holdings that are divested with comparable investments. The provisions of this section shall not apply to any company that is providing humanitarian aid for the citizens of these nations.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2013.
