Senate Bill 2180
AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 5-1-1, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO PROVIDE THAT BEGINNING WITH THE 2019 STATEWIDE GENERAL ELECTION THE MISSISSIPPI HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES SHALL CONSIST OF 70 MEMBERS; TO AMEND SECTION 5-1-3, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO PROVIDE THAT BEGINNING WITH THE 2019 STATEWIDE GENERAL ELECTION THE MISSISSIPPI SENATE SHALL CONSIST OF 30 MEMBERS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. Section 5-1-1, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:
5-1-1. From and after
the first Tuesday after the first Monday of January 2019, the number of
Representatives shall be * * *one hundred twenty‑two (122) seventy (70) and
shall be elected from seventy (70) districts adopted by joint resolution
as provided in Section 254 of the Mississippi Constitution of 1890.
SECTION 2. Section 5-1-3, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:
5-1-3. From and after
the first Tuesday after the first Monday of January 2019, the number of
Senators shall be * * * thirty (30) and shall be elected from * * * thirty (30)
districts adopted by joint resolution as provided in Section 254 of the
Mississippi Constitution of 1890.
SECTION 3. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2017.
