A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE DISTINGUISHED CAREER AND MERITORIOUS LEADERSHIP AND SERVICE THAT MAYOR DAN BURCHFIELD PROVIDED AS ALDERMAN AND MAYOR OF EUPORA UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT.
WHEREAS, Dan Burchfield, the Mayor of Eupora, Mississippi, and community leader extraordinaire, is retiring after selflessly dedicating 20 years of illustrious service and competent guidance to the wonderful people of the Eupora community; and
WHEREAS, after serving on the Board of Aldermen in Eupora for Ward 2 for eight years and then as an Alderman-at-large of Eupora for eight years, he assumed the role of Mayor of Eupora with years of invaluable experience under his belt, and Mayor Burchfield utilized that training and expertise to serve in the role of mayor with efficiency and effectiveness; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Burchfield was also a teacher, principal and administrator in Mississippi's public schools from 1981 until 2010, a role in which he emphasized the importance of an education and inspired children and young adults to reach their fullest potential and achieve greatness; and
WHEREAS, after four years of mayoral service and 20 total years of public service to the people of Eupora, retirement will surely leave an insatiable void for governing and mingling with Mississippi's finest in the heart of Mayor Burchfield, but he is overjoyed to spend time with his family and friends and reflect on the countless number of remarkable people who have touched his life throughout his 20-year career as alderman and as the Mayor of Eupora; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend the tireless devotion to the betterment of Mississippi and honor the ardent vow to impeccable public service that Mayor Dan Burchfield bestowed to the citizens of Mississippi as alderman and Mayor of Eupora:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the distinguished career and meritorious leadership and service that Mayor Dan Burchfield provided as alderman and Mayor of Eupora upon the occasion of his retirement, and extend to him most sincere wishes for continued success and joy in the lighter days ahead.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mayor Burchfield and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
