A RESOLUTION COMMENDING MR. WERT SPIVA, COACH OF THE COLDWATER HIGH SCHOOL BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM, ON BEING NAMED COACH OF THE YEAR BY THE CLARION-LEDGER.
WHEREAS, Wert Spiva guided his Coldwater High School Boys Basketball Team to its second state title in four years by defeating Biggersville High School in the Class 1A State Championship and was named 2012 Coach of the Year by The Clarion-Ledger; and
WHEREAS, Coach Spiva is also the coach of the Coldwater High School Girls Basketball Team, and the girls squad has won three state titles under his guidance; and
WHEREAS, this year Coach Spiva came very close to attaining state titles in both boys and girls basketball as his girls team fell just short of the state title, losing the state title game just a couple of hours before the boys' triumph; and
WHEREAS, Wert Spiva, a Winston County native, has been on the job at Coldwater High School for 20 years and has helped mold young men and women into fine players and young adults for those two decades; and
WHEREAS, Coach Spiva and his wife, Annie, consider themselves blessed to be part of a wonderful tradition at Coldwater High School and the surrounding community; and
WHEREAS, a graduate of Noxapater High School, East Central Community College, Mississippi State University and Union University, Wert Spiva believes that anything worth having is worth working for and there is no substitute for hard work; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence especially when evidenced by superior accomplishments as shown by those of Coach Wert Spiva:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Coach Wert Spiva on being named Coach of the Year by The Clarion-Ledger and guiding the Coldwater High School Boys Basketball Team to the Class 1A State Championship.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Coach Wert Spiva, Coldwater High School and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
