A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE STUDENTS, GRADUATES, PARENTS, TEACHERS AND ADMINISTRATION OF THE BILOXI PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT ON THE OCCASION OF THEIR 150TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION.

WHEREAS, on May 17, 2010, the Biloxi Public School District will celebrate its 150th Anniversary, recognizing the school district's long and honorable history of service to the Biloxi, Mississippi, community; and

WHEREAS, four Biloxians, Gaspard Didier, Joseph Roussell, Arne Bernard and Adele Bernard, made the first donation of land for public school use on May 17, 1860; and

WHEREAS, the actions of these remarkable Biloxians reflected the concern for and commitment to the provision of educational opportunities for Biloxi's children, and their generosity was followed by other donations of land by Biloxians for public school use that were invaluable in the development and growth of the Biloxi public schools over the last 150 years; and

WHEREAS, the 150th Anniversary Celebration will recognize the dedication of Biloxians to ensuring the best possible educational experiences for the students served by the Biloxi public schools, and will honor the memories of the Biloxians who founded schools that continue to meet the highest of expectations and goals; and

WHEREAS, the Biloxi School Board of Trustees and the administration of the Biloxi public schools acknowledge with gratitude the continuing support of city officials and the entire Biloxi community; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we salute the students, graduates, parents, teachers and administration of the Biloxi Public School District over the last 150 years and their quest for excellence in education, bringing pride to their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the students, graduates, parents, teachers and administration of the Biloxi Public School District on the occasion of their 150th Anniversary Celebration, and extend best wishes on this landmark occasion.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the Biloxi School Board of Trustees, Superintendent Dr. Paul A. Tisdale and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
