A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF MR. QUENTON ARMOND "DICK" MILLER, JR., UPON HIS PASSING AND EXPRESSING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS MANY FAMILY AND FRIENDS.
WHEREAS, Mr. Quenton Armond "Dick" Miller, Jr., a member of the "Greatest Generation" departed this earthy life on July 15, 2013, at the age of 85, causing great sorrow and loss to his family and many friends; and
WHEREAS, born on October 20, 1927, to his loving parents, Quenton Armond Miller, Sr., and Christine Johnson Miller, Mr. Miller, who was a naturally gifted athlete and member of the Mississippi State Bulldog Club, lettered in football and baseball, graduated from Merigold High School in 1945, and after completing high school, joined the United States Navy and served on active duty during World War II aboard the Sumner Class Destroyer and the USS Brush DD745 in the Pacific Theatre as a first class machinist mate; and
WHEREAS, after fearlessly serving his country, Mr. Miller was discharged in 1948, but remained in the United States Naval Reserve and was called back to active duty during the Korean War, served aboard the USS Bradford DD545, and due to his superb military service, was awarded the following campaign ribbons or awards: Asiatic-Pacific, American Campaign, Korean Service, Philippine Independence, Republic of Korea, UN Korean Service, WWII Navy Occupation, WWII Victory Ribbon, Navy China Service, National Defense and United Nations; and
WHEREAS, in addition to being the great patriarch of his family, Mr. Miller was a top quality employee of Mississippi Power and Light from 1952 to 1989, when he retired as a chief plant operator after 37 years of selfless service, and notably, he was a proud, active and effective member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers where he represented his union at the bargaining table for many years; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Miller was a communicant of Our Lady of Victories Catholic Church in Cleveland, Mississippi, was a charter member of the Father Rotondo Council No. 5556 of the Knights of Columbus and was a Fourth Degree Knight, and in addition to being a man of faith, he was a member of the American Legion, the Forty and Eight and a member of the Patty-Rice Post 4800 of the Veterans of Foreign War of Cleveland where he served for many years as post commander and quartermaster; and
WHEREAS, throughout his endeavors, Mr. Miller was faithfully supported by his late beautiful wife of 59 years, Louise; three successful children, Debra, Ronald and Lisa; three loving grandchildren, Erin, Cassie and Davis; and two delightful
great-grandchildren, Madeline and Ella Kline; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to honor the life of a great Mississippian such as Mr. Quenton Miller, whose service to this state and country will be treasured for generations to come:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the life and legacy of Mr. Quenton Armond "Dick" Miller, Jr., and express deepest sympathy to his family and friends upon his passing.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Mr. Miller and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
