A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE DISTINGUISHED CAREER OF MR. ROCKY L. MCGARITY IN THE FIELD OF PHARMACEUTICAL SALES, SERVICES AND SUPPLIES AND ACKNOWLEDGING HIS STELLAR BUSINESS ACCOMPLISHMENTS.

     WHEREAS, West Point, Mississippi-native, Rocky L. McGarity, has brought great honor, integrity and pride to Mississippi's pharmacy profession and all the professional implements associated with pharmaceutical sales, services and supplies over the course of his quarter of a century in the industry; and

     WHEREAS, a 1978 graduate of West Point High School, Mr. McGarity continued his educational pursuits at Mississippi State University (MSU), where he obtained his bachelor of science degree in biological-biomedical engineering, and subsequent thereto completed the regimen of course study at the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy in 1989; and

     WHEREAS, never one to shy away from the responsibilities of work, McGarity began working as a young teenager as a laborer with David and Sons Roofing during the summer months and holidays of his high school years, and maintained that resolute work ethic through every employment experience he would be afforded during his maturing and advancement in life, including:  National Marine Fisheries Services (NOAA) with MSU Cooperative Education program from 1979 until his graduation in 1983; Comparative Anatomy lab instructor at MSU; Southern Ionics, Inc.; City of West Point Parks and Recreation; Fisher Marine; Super D Drugstore in Oxford, Mississippi; Edwards Discount Drugs in Lucedale, Mississippi; Hospital Discount Pharmacy in Cullman, Alabama; and Save Rx Pharmacy in Pascagoula, Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, it was upon his return to Lucedale in the latter portion of 1996 to resume employment with Edwards Discount Drugs, that Mr. McGarity made the decision to purchase the business from owner, Hank Edwards, in October 1997, and as the proverbial cliche holds true, "The rest is history," and a successful history it has been; and

     WHEREAS, since McGarity's acquisition, the business has experienced continual growth through the years, which enabled him to establish Live Oak Medical Equipment & Supplies, a full service durable medical equipment and supplies operation in 2001, next door to Edwards Discount Drugs upon the relocation of a clothing store which had previously been the pharmacy's neighbor in the shopping center; and

     WHEREAS, what began in 1997 as a small business operation with six or seven employees, has successfully expanded its services between the two business establishments to now employ 45 individuals, and relocate from its original 6,000 square foot building into a newly constructed 13,000 square foot facility on the weekend of January 17-18, 2009, complete with a deli and gift area that welcomes a 12-15% increase in business operations; and

     WHEREAS, expecting and demanding quality service of his employees that is friendly, courteous and accommodating, McGarity's staff prides themselves on learning their customers and patients by their names, coupled with the team's exceptional ability to have each customer's prescriptions filled in an expedient and efficient manner that usually takes three to five minutes; and

     WHEREAS, as a pharmaceutical leader, Mr. McGarity endeavors to maintain the morale of his colleagues by guiding them with the company's motto of "Customer first, Quality always"; and

     WHEREAS, a devout man of Christian value, Mr. McGarity has attended church all of his life, beginning at West End Baptist Church in West Point, Mississippi, and he continues to make it a major priority in life as stressed by his parents as a young boy after accepting Christ at a youth retreat in Tupelo, Mississippi, in 1976, and evidenced today through his membership and service at First Baptist Church of Wilmer, Alabama; and

     WHEREAS, while appreciative of all his business and professional accomplishments, Mr. McGarity takes greatest pride in the humility, importance and favorable adoration of his family, who have supported his every endeavor without wavering in faith and encouragement, including:  his wife and soul's companion, Michelle Pearce McGarity, whom he wed on July 17, 1999; and his two sons, Caden, age 11, and seven-year-old Jameson; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to honor the commitment and exceptional professionalism of Mr. McGarity, whose service to community is a vital component to the health and wellbeing of each customer served:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the distinguished career of Mr. Rocky L. McGarity in the field of pharmaceutical sales, services and supplies, acknowledge his stellar business accomplishments and convey most sincere wishes for continued success in all of his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. McGarity and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
