A RESOLUTION DESIGNATING MARCH 11, 2026, AS CRIME SURVIVORS SPEAK MISSISSIPPI DAY AT THE STATE CAPITOL.
WHEREAS, on March 11, 2026, more than 150 Mississippi crime victims and survivors representing Crime Survivors Speak Mississippi will gather at the Mississippi State Capitol in Jackson, Mississippi, for Survivors Speak Mississippi 2026; and
WHEREAS, these victims and survivors are coming together to heal, share their stories, and advocate for policies that promote safety, justice, and healing; and
WHEREAS, Survivors Speak Mississippi 2026 is organized by Crime Survivors Speak and local partners committed to advancing public safety and survivor-centered solutions; and
WHEREAS, crime and violence impact individuals and communities across Mississippi, regardless of age, national origin, race, creed, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or economic status; and
WHEREAS, there is a need for the State of Mississippi to invest in programs and services that assist crime survivors and their families in addressing trauma and the long-term effects of violence; and
WHEREAS, Mississippi shall invest in trauma recovery centers and other evidence-based supports that serve as essential wraparound resources for victims and survivors impacted by crime; and
WHEREAS, Mississippi shall address immediate safety concerns facing families while also investing in comprehensive strategies that prevent violence and strengthen communities; and

WHEREAS, most victims and crime survivors do not receive the assistance they need, and only a small percentage of survivors receive direct support from victim service agencies; and
WHEREAS, crime survivors possess unique insight into gaps within the system and are well-positioned to inform policies that improve access to healing, safety, and justice; and
WHEREAS, survivors seek a justice system that prioritizes prevention, rehabilitation, accountability, and trauma recovery:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby recognize March 11, 2026, as Crime Survivors Speak Mississippi Day at the State Capitol.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the members of this Legislature commend the advocates, organizations, and survivors of Crime Survivors Speak Mississippi for their leadership in supporting victims, preventing violence, and strengthening communities.
