A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MRS. BERTHA REED HIGHTOWER UPON THE OCCASION OF HER 100TH BIRTHDAY.

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Bertha Reed Hightower was born on April 12, 1912, in Oktibbeha County, Mississippi, as one of 11 children to Jessie and Martha Reed; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Hightower united in holy matrimony to Mr. Leslie Hightower on September 24, 1932, and four of the children born to this marital union continue to enjoy their mother's blessing of longevity; and

     WHEREAS, excellence has been her hallmark throughout her life, and this excellence is evidenced in her devoted and loving family, including:  sons, Wayne Hightower and Willie Hightower; daughters, Martha Hightower Alford and Carolyn Hightower Hood; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and her other relatives and many friends; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Hightower is a constant and dedicated member of Clear Springs Primitive Baptist Church, and she maintains her independence by living independently and giving attention to the beautiful azaleas that surround her home; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize outstanding citizens of Mississippi, such as Mrs. Hightower, whose longevity has left a lasting impact on numerous citizens throughout her community and this great state:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Mrs. Bertha Reed Hightower upon the occasion of her 100th birthday and extend heartfelt best wishes for many birthdays to come.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mrs. Hightower and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
