A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING RETIRED ARMY STAFF SERGEANT CHARLES B. KELLY ON THE OCCASION OF HIS 93RD BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION.

     WHEREAS, retired Army Staff Sergeant Charles B. Kelly, a lifelong resident of Long Beach, Mississippi, born on February 2, 1920, celebrated the occasion of his 93rd birthday with all the pomp and circumstance a native-born war hero could ever dream, as Grand Marshal of the Long Beach Carnival Association's Mardi Gras Parade on Saturday, February 2, 2013; and

     WHEREAS, in tribute to his service and birthday observance, Kelly was escorted by the Keesler Air Force Base Honor Guard and the Pass Christian and Bay St. Louis High Schools' Air Force JROTC, and was chauffered by the sponsors of the Pass Christian JROTC program, 1st Lieutenant Jacob Huffman and Major Darryl Doukas; and

     WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Kelly, a pillar in the community, as well as the backbone of his family, served in World War II in General George Patton's 7th Armored Division, known as the Lucky 7th Armored that was in the Battle of St. Vith, which was a part of the Battle of the Bulge in the Ruhr Valley, Germany; and

     WHEREAS, a devoted husband to his wife, Lois Kelly, for 69 years and counting, and father of two, Charlene Stogner and Arthel Kelly, Staff Sergeant Kelly attributes his longevity to his faith in God, and enjoys the love, adoration and support of his family and friends; and

     WHEREAS, the retired lead mechanic for the 7th Armored Divison, Kelly is haled as an amazing hero, having fought in the most crucial campaign of World War II under the greatest general of the United States Armed Forces; and

     WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Kelly has seen the transformational changes of the United States of America, and has relied wholeheartedly on God as the driving force to sustain and power him through the circumstances, trials and triumphs of life, while sustained by his profound faith to lead an exemplary life, reflecting the love of Christ and imparting the values of self-assuredness, perseverance, service and benevolence, obtained with his years of infinite wisdom, into the lives of all he has encountered along this journey; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend such outstanding individuals as Staff Sergeant Kelly, whose service to his nation, fellowman and international citizenry, and whose contributions to his creator are exemplary trademarks of the life of a model man:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Retired Army Staff Sergeant Charles B. Kelly on the occasion of his 93rd birthday, celebrating his life and longevity and extend most heartfelt wishes for continued health, love and happiness in the years to come.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Staff Sergeant Kelly and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
