A RESOLUTION WELCOMING AND RECOGNIZING VISITING DIGNITARIES FROM TANZANIA.

     Whereas, the United Republic of Tanzania is located on the coast of East Africa, and is bounded by Kenya and Uganda to the north; Rwanda, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west; Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique to the south; and the Indian Ocean to the east; and

     Whereas, formed by the union of the two sovereign states of Tanganyika and Zanzibar in 1964, Tanzania is the largest country in land area of the east African countries, and has a spectacular landscape of mainly three physiographic regions:  the islands and the coastal plains to the east, the inland saucer-shaped plateau, and the highlands; and

     Whereas, the economy of Tanzania is mostly based on agriculture, and the nation has many natural resources including minerals, being the third-largest producer of gold in Africa, natural gas and tourism, which steadily increases year after year;  and

     Whereas, Tanzania's attractions include dozens of pristine sandy beaches, Africa's highest and snow-capped mountain, the world famous Mt. Kilimanjaro, and wildlife-rich national parks such as the Serengeti, and the country has the largest concentration of wild animals; and

     Whereas, Tanzania is a unitary presidential constitutional republic that is governed by a President and the National Assembly, a unicameral legislature, who are elected concurrently by direct popular vote for five-year terms, and the country has enjoyed years of political stability; and

     Whereas, the Mississippi House of Representatives is most honored on February 26, 2013, by a visit from several dignitaries from Tanzania:  the Honorable Hussein Mwinyi, Minister for Health and Welfare; Nehemia Mchechu, Director General of National Housing; Zahra Nuru, Private Assistant to the President and HE Ambassador; Fatma Riyami, Chairwoman of Tanzania Women Chambers of Commerce; Dr. Lennard Tenende, Chairman of Tanzanian Diaspora and Ciliport, Chairman and CEO; Turgay Serik, Chairman and CEO of Feza International Schools in Tanzania; Ibrahim Bicakci, Executive Director of Feza International Schools in Tanzania; Fatih Guner, CEO of Indexgroup Corp., Tanzania; and Cemil Teber, Honorary Consul of Tanzania; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to welcome and recognize distinguished dignitaries from other countries who honor us with their visit to our state:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we welcome and recognize these visiting dignitaries from the United Republic of Tanzania and extend our best wishes for their continued success in providing their invaluable services to the people of Tanzania.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to each of the visiting dignitaries, to the United Republic of Tanzania and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
