A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING ROSEZELLAR JOHNSON HAMPTON ON THE OCCASION OF HER 80TH BIRTHDAY.
WHEREAS, Rosezellar Johnson Hampton, born to R.C. and Canizer Johnson on March 17, 1932, will joyfully celebrate her 80th birthday on March 17, 2012, in the company of her beloved family and friends; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Hampton, the second of nine children, graduated from Bay Springs High School before attending the University of Southern Mississippi to further her formal education; and
WHEREAS, at a young age, Mrs. Hampton accepted Christ as her savior, and throughout her long life, she has worked to keep Christ central in all her dealings with her family, friends, co-workers and community; and
WHEREAS, steadfastly dedicated to growing in her faith, Mrs. Hampton has been a lifelong active member of Plymouth Rock Baptist Church, becoming an ordained evangelist under the leadership of notable Civil Rights Era leader, Dr. L.W. Bolton, Sr., and she continues to this very day to preach and teach the Gospel through her street ministry, radio ministry and prison ministry; and
WHEREAS, in 1963, seeking to further racial equality in this nation, Mrs. Hampton bravely traveled with fellow advocates to Washington, D.C., to stand beside the great Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., when he led the historic March on Washington; and
WHEREAS, following the life-changing trip, Mrs. Hampton continued to work for racial equality as the secretary for the Congress of Racial Equality and later, when she became involved with her local community's Headstart program; and
WHEREAS, a virtuous woman among countless others who have carried the title of wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Mrs. Hampton has a worth that far exceeds the price of rubies, as she has withstood the tests of time and abounds in great wisdom and knowledge; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Hampton, having been privileged to experience a life of love and happiness, has been immensely blessed with ten children, 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend and congratulate the daughters of Mississippi who have dedicated their lives to bettering their fellow man, such as Mrs. Hampton, and who have relied on God as the driving force to sustain and power their souls through the circumstances, trials and triumphs of life:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES BY THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the life of Rosezellar Johnson Hampton, in celebration of her 80th birthday on March 17, 2012, and express to her our heartfelt wishes for continued health, joy, peace and prosperity for many years to come.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mrs. Rosezellar Johnson Hampton and to members of the Capitol Press Corps.
