WHEREAS, even though the Yellowjackets had many doubters early on in the season, they hit their stride when it mattered most, finishing the month of February with a perfect 7-0 record and winning the Class 6A, Region 3 Tournament to provide them home court advantage in the first round of the state tournament; and

WHEREAS, after the Yellowjackets slow offensive start, Coach Greg Carter called a timeout and inspired his team to play with passion, lighting a fire in his team who then went on a 5-0 score streak, cutting the score to one point; and
WHEREAS, although Madison Central went into halftime with a 20-16 lead, the Yellowjackets came out of the half swinging and pulled to within two points of the Jaguars, going into the final period down 24-22, but armed with the knowledge that they have what it takes to topple the Jaguars; and
WHEREAS, at the close of the final period, free throws by Tyson Carter placed the Yellowjackets ahead of the Jaguars by two points, but the Jaguars tied the score at 34-34 at the close of regulation play, sending the game into overtime; and
WHEREAS, in overtime, Madison Central took the first lead, but it was the Starkville High School Yellowjackets who outworked their opponent in a relentlessly coordinated effort that ultimately paid off with a three-point championship victory; and
WHEREAS, although there were several standout performances by Yellowjackets' players, this championship win was a result of teamwork and unselfish play, with every teammate understanding their role and executing it perfectly; and
