House Resolution 69
(As Adopted by House)
A RESOLUTION ACKNOWLEDGING THE PASSION OF MRS. LORAINE MCDANIEL FOR EDUCATION AND COMMENDING HER COMMITMENT TO BEING ACTIVELY ENGAGED IN HER CHILD'S EDUCATION THROUGH DAILY INVOLVEMENT IN THE CLASSROOM.
WHEREAS, in these tough economic times when budgets across the state are being whittled down, including the education budget, it is reassuring to educators to know that parents like Mrs. Loraine McDaniel exist, who are willing to provide assistance by picking up the slack through volunteering in the classrooms; and WHEREAS, since the 2009-2010 scholastic year began last August, Mrs. McDaniel saw the need for additional help in the classroom and began volunteering her time and assistance at Mamie Martin School in Brookhaven, Mississippi, making an appearance in the classroom of her child at least once every week; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. McDaniel's concern for the educational success of not only her son, but every other child in that classroom, prompts her arrival at 7:30 a.m. and her sometimes reluctant departure at 12:15 p.m. after the class has had lunch; and
WHEREAS, during her time with the class, she assists with bathroom and drink breaks, and affords the teacher the opportunity to conduct small group instruction, one that Mrs. McDaniel leads herself; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. McDaniel contributes to the overall enhanced classroom experience by providing extra guidance to students in need of further instruction during a group lesson, sitting at a table with those students and keeping them focused and on task, allowing the other students to continue in the lesson without distraction or interruption; and
WHEREAS, volunteerism is not a newfound concept to Mrs. McDaniel, as she dedicated one day a week to her son's Head Start program last year and was recognized there for her dedication and faithfulness; and
WHEREAS, a parent who is making a difference in the lives of these kindergarteners, Mrs. McDaniel very well may be the shining example that many parents should pattern themselves after to combat the setback caused by reduced funding of our state's educational programs; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend the efforts of individuals such as Mrs. McDaniel who help make cuts less painful, as we watch the income from sales fall in the state and more and more cuts being made in education and elsewhere, and who are a blessing to the students whose lives they touch:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby acknowledge the passion of Mrs. Loraine McDaniel for education, commend her commitment to being actively engaged in her child's education through daily involvement in the classroom and extend grateful appreciation for her willingness to champion the cause of parent volunteerism in classrooms through leading by example.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mrs. McDaniel and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
