A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MRS. RUBYE PRESTAGE LOVE UPON THE OCCASION OF HER 100TH BIRTHDAY AND EXTENDING SINCERE WISHES FOR HER HAPPINESS ON SUCH A MOMENTOUS OCCURRENCE.

     WHEREAS, on November 14, 1920, the world was blessed with the birth of Mrs. Rubye Prestage Love, and decades later, upon the auspicious occasion of her 100th birthday, she continues to shower those around her with unconditional love and support; and

     WHEREAS, a century ago, Rubye Prestage Love was the first of six children born to Chester A. West and Martha Vina Wood West, the oldest of her five siblings, Cumi Rogers, Dude Spencer, Lee Suddath, Jim West and Betty Jo Jacobs; and

     WHEREAS, Rubye attended Itawamba Agricultural High School in Fulton, Mississippi, where she worked at the school's dairy farm in order to earn her way, and because she was so determined to further her education, she later attended Mississippi State University; and

     WHEREAS, her illustrious teaching career began at Pleasant Hill, which later changed to Cobb Stump, where the children in first, second and third grade all learned the fundamentals of education under her tutelage in one classroom, and after spending the entirety of her career in the classroom, Rubye eventually retired from Fulton Grammar School; and

     WHEREAS, the love and affection of Rubye Prestage pierced the heart and soul of Mr. J.W. Love, and the duo exchanged the vows of holy matrimony with the sweet words "I do," and the two love birds were married for 53 years before J.W.'s passing in 2012; and

     WHEREAS, throughout her life, Rubye has enjoyed making delicious jelly and spending time with her children, Nat, Shauna and Bill, her five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and she continues to serve as an active member of Trinity Baptist Church, where she is involved with the SALT ministry; and

     WHEREAS, for the past 100 years, Mrs. Rubye Prestage Love has undoubtedly inspired her family and friends, greeting everyone she meets with a million-watt smile that could illuminate even the darkest day, and her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren love her tremendously and revere her as the wonderful mother and grandmother she truly is; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and honor the lives of Mississippi's wisest generation, especially those such as Mrs. Rubye Prestage Love on the occasion of her 100th birthday, for being a gracious woman who always puts others before herself and loves her family and friends unconditionally, bringing glory and honor to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Mrs. Rubye Prestage Love upon the occasion of her 100th birthday and extend sincere wishes for her happiness on such a momentous occurrence.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mrs. Rubye Prestage Love and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
