A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING TERRY JACKSON UPON HIS RETIREMENT FROM HIS LONG CAREER OF SERVICE TO THE PEOPLE OF JACKSON COUNTY AS AN EMERGENCY SERVICES DEPUTY DIRECTOR AND FIREFIGHTER.

     WHEREAS, after a lengthy career serving the citizens of Jackson County, Mississippi, Terry Jackson is retiring after most recently serving as the Deputy Director of the Jackson County Office of Emergency Services, a position he has held since the office was established in 2013; and

     WHEREAS, Terry began his tenure of service to the good people of Jackson County as a volunteer firefighter with the Three Rivers Volunteer Fire Department in 1984, and in recognition of his hard work and dedication he later became the volunteer fire chief of Three Rivers in 1987; and

     WHEREAS, after 11 years of serving the citizens residing in the unincorporated areas of Jackson County as a volunteer firefighter, Terry left Three Rivers to become a full-time firefighter with the City of Pascagoula in 1991 and later Moss Point in 1992; and

     WHEREAS, after serving with Moss Point until 2000, Mr. Jackson left that position to begin his service to the whole of Jackson County as a full-time firefighter with the county; and

     WHEREAS, while working with Jackson County Fire Department, Mr. Jackson also served Jackson County during and after the dark hours of Hurricane Katrina as a valuable part of the County's Emergency Management efforts, and in 2007 he became the Deputy EMA Director with Jackson County while still working as a firefighter; and

     WHEREAS, in addition to serving the citizens of Jackson County on thousands of fire and emergency rescue calls, Mr. Jackson also served his county well during Hurricanes Elena, Georges, Dennis, Ike and Isaac, and during the Deep Water Horizon event in 2010; and

     WHEREAS, as a member of Mississippi's response team to assist the citizens of New Jersey in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, Mr. Jackson spent several weeks in New Jersey doing what he does best, helping people; and

     WHEREAS, a lifelong resident of Jackson County, Terry and his wife, Sharon, reside in the Wade Community with their three children; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend the careers of outstanding public servants, such as Mr. Terry Jackson, whose service to the citizens of his county brings great pride to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Mr. Terry Jackson upon the occasion of his retirement, and extend best wishes for continued peace and happiness in the lighter years of his retirement.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Terry Jackson and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
