A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE GULFPORT HIGH SCHOOL BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM FOR WINNING THE MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION 2014 CLASS 6A BOYS BASKETBALL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, through perseverance and determination, the Gulfport High School Boys Basketball Team has earned a reputation for excellence; and
WHEREAS, this stellar team has won the Mississippi High School Activities Association 2014 Class 6A Boys Basketball State Championship for Gulfport High School; and
WHEREAS, seniors, Derrick Anderson, Dimitri Cook, Jevon Floyd, Jerron Kennedy, Walter Stevenson, and Leondre Wilson have provided tremendous leadership and motivation for juniors, Royce Davison, Richaud Floyd, Jahshire Hardnett, Tyrell McArthur, and Michael Miller and for sophomores, Alton Conerly, Jonathan Floyd, Lee Harper and Raekwon Murphy; and
WHEREAS, these Admirals have won the ninth basketball state championship for Gulfport High School; and
WHEREAS, the phenomenal performance of these stellar athletes is a clear indication of their outstanding athletic ability, dedication and hard work, and their drive and determination to be the best; and
WHEREAS, the remarkable season ended in a 32-3 record due to the astute direction of Head Coach Owen Miller and Assistant Coaches, Heath Cooper, Courtenay Brown and David Austin; and
WHEREAS, Athletic Trainer Carlos Evers and Managers Mosiah Stubbs, Breaunna Poole, Najla Lombard, Devin Soto, and Joseph Harvey have helped this team earn their well-deserved reputation for excellence as they performed with courage and precision over a season of training and competition, and their performances this season are worthy of recognition; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend such excellence as that exhibited by the Gulfport High School Boys Basketball Team, who has brought great pride to its school and community:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Gulfport High School Boys Basketball Team on winning the 2014 Class 6A State Championship, and extend sincere wishes for future success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the Gulfport High School Boys Basketball Team and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
