A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE CLINTON HIGH SCHOOL ARROW SOCCER TEAM AND HEAD COACH JEFF LONG FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 2011-2012 SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION CLASS 6A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, the Clinton High School Arrows Soccer Team finished the 2011-2012 season by emerging victorious with the 2012 Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 6A Boys Soccer Championship title; and

     WHEREAS, being incredibly well-disciplined young men, the Arrows performed extremely well in the 2011-2012 state playoffs, defeating the Admirals of Gulfport High School with a score of 2-0 in the MHSAA Class 6A State Championship game on the Arrows' home turf in Clinton, Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, in becoming the 2012 MHSAA Class 6A Boys Soccer State Champions, the Arrows invested countless measures of hard work above and beyond the level of other teams, having begun this effort in the late summer months and continuing through early February; and

     WHEREAS, with this latest championship title, the Arrows add their ninth state soccer championship to the trophy case at Clinton High School; and

     WHEREAS, the Arrows have been superbly coached and inspired throughout the season by Head Coach Jeff Long, who has been ably assisted by Assistant Coach Michael Pardue; and

     WHEREAS, finishing out their season with an overall record of 23-2-2, the incredible 2011-2012 Arrows Soccer Team recorded an impressive 83 total goals for the season while conceding only 13 goals to their opponents and finished the road to the championship game with victories in their four playoff games; and

     WHEREAS, the 2011-2012 Arrows Roster is comprised of the following athletes:  Jake Files, Nick Niolet, Chris Espin, Bryson Cobb, Russell Macoon, Michael Orcutt, James Oliver, Nathan Usry, Reid Westover, Reece Everett, Bill McClendon, Markel Gladney, Zaac Crosby, Joseph Meadors, Kennon Craft, Calvin Asemota, Hunter Mason, Graham Bobo, Johnnie Moncure, Datti Jinkirir, Gustav Wiman, Grant Gilliam, Thomas Schmalz, Trey Wilkerson, Jimmy Doonan, Adam Jackson, Conner Graham, Jackson Oliver, Gurdit Singh, Nick Whitfield, Tony Rodriguez, Nosa Agho, Wynton Sims, Maurice Whalen, Drake Barrett and Aaron Hale; and

     WHEREAS, after a remarkable season and an incredible championship game against Gulfport, the Arrows finished with a well-deserved ranking of first in the state and second overall in the nation; and

     WHEREAS, aside from their amazing athletic abilities on the soccer field, members of the Arrows Soccer Team perform well in the classroom, too, with several players scoring high on the ACT, namely:  Jake Files, with a perfect score of 36; Russell Macoon, with a score of 34; Connor Graham, with a score of 33; Datti Jinkirir, with a score of 31; Joseph Meadors, with a score of 30; and Nathan Usry, with a score of 29; and

     WHEREAS, in their tireless dedication, the Arrows have developed a winning, cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitudes reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coaches, bringing honor to Clinton High School; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Clinton High School Arrows Soccer Team and Head Coach Jeff Long for winning the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 6A Boys Soccer Championship title and extend best wishes to the players for continued success in all of their future academic and athletic endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Coach Long, Principal Eddie Peasant, the Clinton Public School District and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
