A RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING THE MISSISSIPPI HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES SOFTBALL TEAM AND COACH TROY SMITH FOR WINNING THE BATTLE OF THE TOMBIGBEE.

WHEREAS, the Mississippi House of Representatives Softball Team clinched a well-deserved victory when they defeated members of the Alabama Legislature to win the second annual Battle of the Tombigbee in Birmingham, Alabama; and

WHEREAS, striving to win with unparalleled motivation and ardent determination, the Mississippi House of Representatives Softball Team played their best, as their mental stamina and athletic prowess never wavered from the moment they first walked onto that red, dusty diamond, until they scored five runs in the top of the ninth inning to break the tie; and

WHEREAS, the matchup ended as a thrilling 16-11 victory over the Alabama team, with the proceeds from the game benefitting the Children's of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama; and

WHEREAS, in addition to reigning supreme against the Alabama Legislature, the Mississippi House of Representatives Softball Team took on its neighbors from the Louisiana House of Representatives in a friendly softball game in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and dominated with a 23-8 victory; and

WHEREAS, in their tireless dedication, the Mississippi House of Representatives Softball Team have developed a winning, cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitudes reflect great credit upon the individual players and Coach Smith, bringing honor to the State of Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, it is most fitting to recognize and commend the superb accomplishments of the Mississippi House of Representatives Softball Team, whose excellence on the field brings honor to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Mississippi House of Representatives Softball Team and Coach Troy Smith upon winning the Battle of the Tombigbee and extend best wishes to the team for continued success in all their future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the Mississippi House of Representatives Softball Team, Coach Troy Smith, and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
